I think best case for Australian rugby is that Folau signs a sabbatical contract with the ARU through to 2019.

So he is locked in to Aus rugby but gets to have two or three seasons in France (2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18). Before returning to Aus in 2017 or 18 for the test season and then playing a season (or two) with the Tahs before the world cup.

The bloke could get 2 mil a season at Toulon for a couple of years then come back to a million a season from the ARU. Plus endorsements.

It would be a compromise but I think he is talented enough to warrant it.

It's amazing the types of places you can travel too when you're earning $2million a season and living in Europe.

Surely he wants to stay with the Waratahs so he can travel to Cambelltown? Cape Town, Cannes, Casablanca, Copenhagen ....... pfffttt

I wonder how much his family and church ties will play on this. Travel is great and all, but if he has a strong sense of "home" then he may not want to relocate for 3 years. He was getting plenty big money in the AFL, and that wasn't enough to keep him there

@rugbysmartarse - I agree. I think family and church are the most likely things to keep him in Australia.

If he does end up going to France for a few years, maybe it's because he actually wants a break from all that!

Frankly I see no problem if he leaves for massive money in France, I would love for him to stay, but if we can't keep him. France is a far better option than the NRL for the Tahs.

And in two years Andrew Kellaway may be a reasonable replacement

I dont think Kellaway is Folau or will be but I agree anywhere but back to the Mungos. I couldn't stand people like Gould and Kent crowing and smirking over how their game is better than ours and having him back would prove it

It's quite humorous to listen to those guys.
On the channel 9 League show last Sunday, there was a film clip of a prop drawing and passing for a try.
Joey Johns waxed lyrical about the unbelievable skill was on display, the way he squared up the defender, and stopped him sliding....
Sad really....
Sorry, back to the thread...

There is never "another", but there are always good prospects out there to replace the "un-replaceable", it is the circle of rugby life

if he wants a break he could just move to bondi and forget about Hillsong. He wouldn't be the first

This Folau drama is really pissing me off. The Wallabies won plenty of games before Folau was around and would win plenty without him. He may be a commercial asset, but he would probably have less effect on the likelihood of a Wallaby than a good tighthead prop.

Wallaby HR 101 - the guys who score the tries get the bucks. And the promo gigs.

The guys who supply the ball get a free beer and a pat on the head.
