So the reason Naiyaravoro didn't go to Dunedin was because he doesn't have a passport, likely to miss the Canes game too.

You called it:

"................ the Waratahs have hit a snag early in the week with news blockbusting Fijian wing Taqele Naiyaravoro is unlikely to travel to Wellington due to a visa issue. Naiyaravoro failed to make the Waratahs' trip to Dunedin last month to play the Highlanders for the same reason"

Gotta wonder how he came to be in Australia in the first place,or is he an overstayer & now going through the process of "regularising his immigration status"?

Geez it's amateur hour in the Tahs admin that something like this has been allowed to occur.

It would seem that it's nothing to do with the Waratahs though, it has to do with his visa to come to Australia and whether or not he has breached it in some way.
It is unclear what the exact nature of the holdup is, although judging by a statement given by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, it appears Naiyaravoro may have transgressed on a visa condition previously.
A spokesperson for the department said: “Visa holders seeking to stay in Australia must satisfy their visa conditions. Some visas let people stay temporarily in Australia and end when the person departs.

As we discovered when looking at different visas in another thread, there are that many different visas to come to Australia, it would depend which one he was on in the first place. IIRC, except for the special visa that Kiwis get, everyone else needs to get permanent residency before being allowed to leave and re-enter the country. For everyone else, once you leave you have to reapply to come back.

Willie O's visa issues were in the amateur era, so it's probably the right description.

Reading between the lines, Naiyaravoro has a Fijian passport and is presumably in Australia on either a work or humanitarian visa.

The worry must be that if he leaves Australia, he won't be allowed back in.

I think regardless of what back office staff do, if the player only holds a passport of a country with questionable diplomatic status they're going to have their travel restricted.

It would be a far greater error by the Waratahs back office staff if they let him travel to New Zealand and then found out he wouldn't be able to return to Australia.

^^^ Would not want to gift NZ another bruising Wing in a reverse Viliami Ofahengaue, bearing in mind his appearance in Aust was due to a stuff up by NZ administrators.

It is bad enough that Wicks and Manly (and the Tahs) let Ratu Nasiganiyavi slip through their fingers (because he let the ball slip through his fingers too often :)) to become the menace that Nemani Nadolo has become for the CruSadists.

The big issue this week is why the hell McCutcheon is coming into the team for Potgieter. He is a has been that never was... (a hasn't been?). In any case Tala Gray and Jed holloway need to be blooded soon. Who knows 'Cutch might surprise us but I'm not sold

Pass it to Dunning!

Tala Gray has been named for Easts this weekend, but Jed Holloway isn't on the team list for Southern Districts. Maybe he's going to get named for the Tahs this week. Unless he's injured.

Wouldn't the player union have something to say about his work load, his going to play week in week out for basically 3 years..
I'm going to guess he misses the first 2 months of super rugby each year.

Be interesting to see how Rio fits in, if at all.
