Volavola has mostly played 10 for the Tahs

I could be wrong (and since you're confident I very well may be) but despite Volavola being recruited as a 10, having a background at 10, and probably being looked at as a future 10 I believe he's mostly been subbed on at fullback.

Infact didn't he play fullback in the 1 and only game he started?

Since that start at full back against the Brumbies I'm not sure he has even subbed on there, although I could be wrong on this. Folau has been immense the past 4 or 5 games so it isn't a suprise he hasn't got a go there

Yeah he started that game at fullback but every other he came off the bench and played 10, even when Foley stayed on and went to 15.

There's another level to this Lance signing by Cheika: he's taking a European view of his Super squad and is looking to build depth. Link made the interesting remark about his time at Stade Francais, playing so many games in a couple of competitions resulted in a "whole new team running out next week". I think Cheika's aiming to build something similar at the Tahs with his signings and reckons Lance could be a good backup five-eighth. And when St Catastrophe of the Injuries strikes Lance'll be a first choice five-eighth. Don't forget what happened to the 10s at the Reds and Brumbies last year.

It'd be nice to see Cheika run maybe not a whole new team out next week but give all the squad members at least a coupla games this year. Blokes like Hart, Hodge and Atkins, just to see what they're like. Anyone know why they younger Timani's not getting any game time?

BTW, Phipps's passing last night against the Chiefs was very good, if he keeps that up next year I'll be happy with his move north.

Didn't see it mentioned elsewhere in the thread, but it appears TPN will be with the Tahs for another couple of seasons at least.
Tatafu Polota-Nau says 'non' to France
WALLABIES hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau has rejected a lucrative offer from French club Toulouse to remain in Australia and pursue his goal to play at the 2015 World Cup in England.
The Australian reported on its website yesterday that there was speculation in France linking Polota-Nau to Toulouse.
Polota-Nau confirmed last night he had been in discussions with Toulouse, but had decided to continue to play for NSW.
"I've had a chat to them, but I've made up my mind," Polota-Nau said from South Africa, where the Waratahs are preparing to play the Bulls in Pretoria on Sunday.
"I've still got some goals I want to accomplish. I've got my eyes on the World Cup."
One of the most powerful hookers in world rugby, Polota-Nau's decision to stay in Australia is good news for the Wallabies and the Waratahs.
It comes in the week when Polota-Nau will celebrate his 100th game for NSW. He will notch up his 100th Super Rugby cap against the Kings in Port Elizabeth next weekend.
"I'm proud to represent this great state," he said.
"I'm not sure if I'm any wiser, but I'm more content with the journey.

i think the reasoning behind the phipps signing is that its clear that genia and white are the top two half backs in aus> its also clear neither of them are going to be leaving where they are>>
with phipps experience in gold and relative youth, plus his fitness and ball running skills hes actually just some good passing training and better decision making under pressure away from being a good half back>
we arnt getting genia or white> so considering the options its actually a pretty good signing>>
his backing up for a second touch and attacking the outside center channel creates opportunities for the rebels>>
i still dont like him> and wanna see him stop bitching to the refs/ acting tougher than he is
but i can see potential

I'm becoming increasingly happy with the Phipps signing.

I've been impressed with most of his games this season and think he brings a lot to the Rebels attack. His passing isn't fantastic but I don't think it is too bad. Certainly I'd say that it is an upgrade on McKibbin. I think his decision making in terms of making quick decisions to shift the Rebels attack is really promising. I think he will really improve the Waratahs attack next season.

?

So you're saying he's a professional half back without the core skills of one.

In other words, he's a winger.

i think you could say the same about a lot of halfbacks- shocking isnt it
sometimes the player can bring skills like a running game and being a real threat around the ruck to overshadow their deficiencies >think burgess, pretorious
but a half back with a strong pass and a moderate running game should always be played above a halfback with a moderate passing game and a strong running game>
but improving a players passing game should in theory be easier than improving a players running game>>
doesnt matter what lucas does hes not improving his running game to a sufficent level to be a threat at 5ft tall> in fact id suggest the best thing he could do would be lose the blonde hair, to quote someone else "real men dont have blonde hair- lucas aint intimidating anyone looking like a boy"

Port Elizabeth: Emerging rugby powerhouse Israel Folau says he is not missing rugby league at all after five months with the Waratahs.
In the strongest indication yet that the cross-code talent is serious about pursuing a future in rugby, Folau said he was enjoying playing the code so much he had stopped missing the NRL.
"I've been out of the game for three years now, and I've got to say when I first left the code [to join AFL team Greater Western Sydney] it was hard, but now it's helped that I've really enjoyed my rugby, and to be quite honest I'm not really missing [league] at all," he said after a man of the match performance in the Waratahs' record breaking 72-10 rout of the Southern Kings in South Africa.
"For me that's a good thing, I'm really enjoying what I'm doing at the moment, and hopefully we can get something settled once we get back to Sydney."

Facing strong interest from a number of NRL clubs, including the Bulldogs, plus the Australian Rugby Union and the Waratahs, Folau said he hoped to finalise his decision within a month.
"Obviously there is a lot of interested from rugby league but right now I'm enjoying my rugby and taking each week as it comes," he said. "But, look, I'm really enjoying it and I can see myself having a real crack at it so once I get back I'll try to get things sorted as quick as I can and see how we go."

Phipps I don't think has really had the luxury of playing behind a dominant pack and often this gets overlooked when judging him. This most likely will change when he joins the Tahs.

Was the trip to Safferland the make or break for team Folou?

Hmmmm a week in Safferland, a game or two in South America, annual shopping tours in Paris, UK and Italy with Heavensgame or State of Origin in Brisbane and Sydney each year and .... um a farce of a "world Cup" in Penrith every so often, city vs country in Wagga Wagga and once every so often to Leeds, Udderfield or Sfluffybunnyhorpe from Mungoball.

Even if you don't like travelling too much there really is no comparison. A genuine International game compared to a localised dumbed down sport that is going nowhere.
