Apart from Beale... What other essential 'stars' have left the Waratahs for other aussie super rugby teams in the past 5 or 6 years?

I wouldnt be giving too big a rap on Hooper at this stage. I mean good on him for coming home and he has been outstanding for the Wallabies, but this time last year we were saying the same thing about Sarel Pretorious.

Except for the part where Hooper has been the stand-out Wallaby of 2012 and Pretorious never played for the Bokke, I totally agree. Exact same thing.

It is pretty fair to say Beale and O'Connor have gone downhill since joining the Rebels..

I don't think that's particularly true. Both have had some unfortunate injuries but I would suggest that Beale matured as a playmaker when he was on the park with the Rebels, a process which has continued at the Wallabies.

I'm going to remain conspicuously quiet about JOC (James O'Connor) though.

If you can keep them on the park, that is one seriously good and well balanced forward pack.

I, for one, seriously hope Cheika doesn't. If we've learnt one thing about the new Super Rugby it's vitally important to have a good squad of forwards with quality reserves to ensure the load is shared; running our best 15 into the ground, as Hickey did, is a recipe for disaster.

So if we use a forward pack as above:

16: Fitzpatrick/Ulugia
17: Paddy Ryan/Tilse
18: Greg Peterson/Richard Stanford??/Ollie Atkins
19: Club Captain Pat McCutcheon/Lopeti Timani

Admittedly in the front row we are set, but the rest could use some development.

You think that's the true order of 2nd rowers? Admittedly Atkins in EPS but he'd head the bunch on potential and Stanford would head it on experience.
