The main problem facing the Waratah Shield is that schools without a full-time rugby programme can't compete with schools that do. Augustines have been training twice a week since February, have played in the ISA, plus a few touring sides. How can a school whose players train once a week during school sport and compete in a local gala day compete with that?exISA, if we don't refer to it as the Premier School Boy Competitions, then whatever prestige it has left will be lost.
I realise that it is not that now but if we do not build it, then they will not come.
What other vehicle can we use to promote serious schoolboy competitions outside of the main insular association environments?
