It's interesting to see some of the changes in forum sentiment.

People get annoyed with players too easily. Sometimes it is well founded and players are in bad form but too little allowance is made for good form to return. Sometimes people criticise players harshly because of poor observation, especially if they play for a team that is not admired; thus observation is skewed. Sometimes they don't give a young player time to develop whereas older heads know they need time.

It just goes to show that folks shouldn't go into diatribes about players. Players are seldom as bad as extreme opinions would have them and, for that matter, seldom as good as over the top assessments.

Rocky Elsom was even pilloried by some as being over rated; by coincidence some critics did this when he announced he was going to Leinster. Cliffy Palu was held to be a dud by some but not any more. If he goes to Japan however, I feel his form of a sudden, will be assessed as not so good after all.

More recently the Fainga'as were obviously duds and Cooper was a joke.

Opinions can change - fair enough; but beware of offering opinions that are absolute. They are seldom correct and seldom respected.

It wouldn't be as fun to discuss if everyone was a 'moderate'!

And I hope when you say 'older heads' you actually mean 'wiser heads', because there is a big difference.

Very astute observation LG. When players are playing well people think they are playing well, but when they are playing badly or average people think they are bad or average. Stupid young people.

Agreed. Sports forums are like pubs, not like debating societies. Strong opinions, whether they be right or wrong, are what makes them tick by adding heat to the conversation. Besides, if reasonableness were a requirement then some posters would never get a chance to post.

Assuming they pick a squad

LHP
Robinson
Kepu

THP
Alexander
Baxter or Weekes

Hooker
TPN
Moore

Locks
Sharpe
Mumm
Chisolm
Hockings

6s
Elsom
Higgenbottom ?? maybe, if he can be taught to hit contact less upright

7s
Hodgson
Pocock

8s
Palu
Mowen or Hoiles

9s
Genia
Burgess or Sheehan (if he continues to keep his discipline)

10s
Cooper
Gits

12s
JOC (James O'Connor)
Barnes

13s
AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)
Cross

Back Three
Ioane
Hynes
Mitchell
Turner
Huxley

I think Huxley maybe a smokey for the Wallabies is he gets to his previous form, which is quite possible. What it would give Aus is a "classic" 15. Good under the high ball, prone to counter attack and a good kicker.

But to me, a in form Huxley, would give the back three greater balance (in the Marty Roebuck style).

A backline of

Genia
Cooper
Ioane
Gits
Ashley-Cooper
Mitchell
Huxley

Would be pretty impressive

I'm with you fp, I think Hux would be an excellent addition to the Wallabies, if all goes to plan this year.

I have gone of Hynes somewhat. At least at fullback. Watch his games again, he does put us under some pressure quite regularly. Not what I want from a fullback in the trinations or RWC.

oh, and I was Marty Roebuck's biggest fan. Would love to have another "Roey" in the Wobblies.

Gone off Hynes Fat?

No, he would be in the 22, it is more about getting balance in the side. Mitchell doesn't have Hynes' workrate, but is more dynamic in the tackle (and that does surprise me, as Mitchell was the pants a few years ago) and can play the role of 2nd 15 I like.

Backs reserves of

Burgess, Barnes & Hynes would be a bloody solid bench

Interesting. Not sure if Deans would go for Hux to be honest.

dunno, to me, he is a Deans style player, skillful, works hard & a team player.

6 Elsom
7 Pockock
8 Palu
9 Genia
10 Gitau

The reality is, this will be his squad, and there is nothing we can do about it

I think the balance of the team is more centred around where that man Giteau plays.

I hope hux does make it back to the Wallabies, but I'm going to cringe every time he gets tackled and hope he is okay.

Turner's years has been average at best at best. I struggle to see him included in the squad to be honest

Waugh in the matchday 22?

Oh haha I get the joke. For a second I thought you were serious...

Mitchell is really demanding a wing.

Yeh totally. He came into 1st and 2nd receiver alot tonight for the Tahs. His defence was also good when it counted. But what is best is his ability to make 10metres everytime he goes for a dart.

With all due respect, I think few top line nations would be at all concerned with those backs on the bench. Hynes is a real trier, gives it plenty, but is not that quick and not that dynamic. I think he deserves his place in the 22, but that reflects poorly on the other back 3 options out there. And I don't think Saffers or ABs would be concerned by him.
After tonight Burgess and Barnes would be even further down that list.

Was burgess really that bad tonight? Must have missed something. I thought he was pretty solid and provided Gahu with good ball. He didn't make many, if any sniping runs, but I don't think that was the Tahs game plan tonight.

Unlike other posters I'm warming to Hynes at 15 & going cold on AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper). We are about halfway into the season so we should all review our teams at the end to see how far we've swung with our player opinions.

My Aussie side so far.

15 Hynes
14 AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)
13 Ioane
12 Giteau
11 Mitchell (career best form ATM)
10 Quade Cooper
9 Genia
8 Palu
7 Pocock
6 Rocky
5 Sharpe (our lineout is shakey without him)
4 Mumm
3 Alexander
2 TPN
1 Robinson

16 Moore
17 Daley (has played both sides & is a brilliant defender)
18 Chisolm
19 Hodgson
20 Burgess
21 Barnes
22 JOC (James O'Connor)

Aussie A

15 Julian huxley
14 lachie Turner
13 Ryan Cross
12 A Faainga
11. Pat Mcacbe
10 To'omua
9 Valenshit
8 Houston
7 Waugh (c)
6. Dave Dennis
5. Ben Hand
4. Kane Douglas
