Here's a controversial one. What I'm looking for is the BEST Inside Centre of the Decade. In my minds it doesn't matter how many tests he played, just the best one.

But no Gits in the top 3? Am I crazy?

This one is really going to show what kind of rugby we find appealing..

Fast wide and fancy players will pick Gits..
Hard ballers will go for Grey or Herbert.

One goose will pick Quade.. oops, already been done.

Ofcourse,.. if you want the best, then Timmy Horan with just one game may get a few votes too.. I'd have to check which game it was and see if it was a cracker.

it was the first test v Argentina in 2000 at Ballymore.

And he came off injured.

I didn't even look at the list. Tim Horan & I'll tell him about this thread tonight at touch footy.

Anyone else in Brisbane play touch at Whites Hill?

I used to before two knee ops. Played the competitive stuff on a friday night, that we actually trained for and some social stuff on another night. In fact, have been invited to play in another social team, and think it may be wednesday nights. Not sure if I trust the knee enough though.

Pretty sure that team is (still) called the Battered Savs - just in case they happen to be in your grade?

Despite what the masses think, Grey, must be the clear winner ...

The hit on Brian O'Driscoll in the 2nd Lions Test was worth the price of admission alone.

Sorry Noddy, but this is laughable.

Flats = shite in attack. Couldn't make a break to save himself.
Grey = couldn't pass (See effort at fly half v England).
Little = Worn out by 1998 and a 13.
Gits = Considered world class at 12 by serious rugby pundits on both sides of the equator.

THe Gits bashing on this board is getting tiresome. Put him on NSW or QLD jumper and it would cease.

Utter tripe Spook. The reason people don't rate Gits is because, while he's obviously a good player, he is mentally fragile. Its nothing to do with him being in your franchise.

Grey had a job at inside centre - it was the Macqueen era where we didn't need a fop on our centre line, but someone to set up the next play. We had the best playmaker in the world and didn't need a second one messing things up. It was wickedly successful.

yeah I think its that mental edge that really sets Little, Flatley and Grey apart from Gits to be honest.

Little was superb at 12 and provided the direction and experience we really needed that year (2000).

Grey was such a crucial component of that Lions serie, so hard nosed.

Likewise Flats and 2003 (and other years). He scored some great tries too, which you obviously can't remember.

Flats was limited in skills compared to Gits or Larkham, but he made up for it in pure grit, and consistency of performances. He did the job that the coach knew he would everytime. It is much easier for a coach when they know what they are going to get.

Flats is sort of like Barnes is now, except the constant injuries (ignoring the head ones of course).

He was a bit of a piss head though.

A combo of Flats determination and mental strength and Gits natural ability would be awesome.

I chose Gits in a very close one.

Fantasy footy heaven, Grey & Herbert vs Gits & Mortlock.

I think the former was a better, more evil combo for a big, hard test match as they showed against the Lions, but Gits and Morts are probably more talented individual players

Gitts...

Won nuthin. Done nuthin. An embarrassment to the ARU. Overepaid for what he was. Not his fault tho and I'm sure he gave all he had.

Barnes or Grey.

For this decade, it has to be Gits. He was the only person on that list who is/was world XV quality at 12 for mine (excluding, obviously people who didn't play a lot this decade at 12 like Horan who are obviously universe XV quality). I'm also getting tired of the constant bashing, I'm perfectly happy to have him play for my country and think he gives 100% every time even if he does have an entire backline's worth of expectation on his shoulders.

He won a Super 12 Title - whereas Barnes/Grey have won what exactly?

Grey has won a Lions series

Yep. The last runner to set up Bernie's dropgoal against the Boks in the 99 semifinal was Nathan Grey. He got over the gain line with prejudice, something few other players were doing in the greasy conditions.

Which games did Grey, Flats, or Little ever win from 12 primary through their actions (or any position for that matter)? Gits performance against Wales (at 12 and 10) was better than anything these blokes ever served up in the last decade. We also have Gits basically beating England by himself back in 04 I think. Again, a level of performance the other blokes never reached in their careers in the last decade.

Mortlock destroyed the All blacks and SA on quite a few occassions. Herbert never dominated to the same degree in better Ozzie sides. Gits + Morty are the best 12/13 combo since Horan and Little. Let's put this one to bed. I win :)

They are better individual players, but Grey & Herbert were more team players who played their roles very well. They tackled hard and ran hard for 90 minutes, every week they played. In a game expected to be trench warfare you could do a lot worse.
