Slipper is the answer to the above. Hooper is in no way a shoe in as a starter when Mr Pocock is fit and gets some rugby under his belt. Slipper on the other hand has consistently fended off fit competitors for his starting jersey. Would he be a good Wallaby captain? That can't really be answered with any authority at this stage. Personally I don't like the idea of a prop as our captain. Ref management can become very awkward at set piece.

if horwill returned to his 2011 form, would he be considered for captaincy?
I think he was a good leader. I know you cant pick a player who isnt even guaranteed a spot in the 23 but if he was i wouldnt mind seeing him re-instated as if i remember correctly link took his captaincy off him so he could just focus on his own game.

i agree, his form needs to get alot better for that to be considered, but hopefully his form trend continues upwards and we might get close to that.

when is kev ever a sour puss? Hodgson would be a great captain, but he wont be in the 23 if pocock returns as close to the player he was before injury

I must say I am very impressed by QC (Quade Cooper), he took a lot of stick and I was critical, but he's showed plenty of class on and off the field since the Deans blow up. Full credit to him.

Sometimes we learn from our mistakes. To me this has been his only real mistep as captain.
We could go to just about any Wallaby or Aussie super team match thread and the captain of the day (whoever they are) will be criticised for on field calls. Most of these relate to taking/not taking penalty goals or scrum options. According the the learned folk of GAGR - no captain of any Aussie team gets these calls right, so for people (not you) to be calling for Hooper's sacking on these sorts of grounds is a bit rich.
Not really my point, yes Slipper was probably the only other option, but Hooper had just captained the the Tahs to the title.
I still think it was the right choice
Now next year who knows, Pocock? I doubt if he will ever get near his previous level, he hasn't played for how long?

The Reds were always going to do that, the Lions knew it, the crowd knew it, Link knew it, Quade knew it...... you get my point. And it nearly worked
I'm not judging QC (Quade Cooper) on his captaincy in that game. The EOYT is another matter and he didn't disappoint and showed he has what it takes.

There is no doubt in my mind that Captaincy is one of the issues we face. Hooper is green.
My vote would also be Pocock, a great player with a level head. We saw some good captaincy in the Wales tour of 2012. I count the loss of him in the BIL tour as our single biggest loss and would go so far as to say it cost us Victory.
But he has a history of knee issues and I fear we can't count on him to be a fixture. And when he does come back he will need a fair few games at a lower level. We're in a pickle and no mistake.
My preference is Horwill if continues to improve, he is a damn fine leader and I believe he will be better still for the challenges fought and won if he gets back to being indispensable at lock. We sure could use him back to his best!

Definately scraping bottom of the barrel, if Moore is captain material - essentially last man standing. Even as an experienced campaigner, Moore just doesnt string too many good games together (lots of hmmm games), if it was a merit-based criteria. QC (Quade Cooper) also fits this hmmm criteria. For my mind, Genia is still the best choice, but his absence and Hoopers ascendency into the 7, and lynchpin in the open is by no means a fluke - given Gill presence. Should Genia return to sizzling form, or even sound form, hes the best captain - has been world best, makes sound decisions, big game experience, very diplomatic and media savvy and not perturbed in demand more from the playing group - cause he leads by example.

Not sure when Moore's form was last inconsistent, seem to remember him being widely considered the 2nd or 3rd best hooker in the world when fit.

Do you watch rugby? Genia is a horrid captain. Hot headed, lacks diplomacy (remember him misunderstanding Kafer's post game question and having a go at him?), petulant, rips into team mates when he's having a bad game.
I don't necessarily think Moore is a great captain, more a quiet leader in my mind, but he is out and out our best hooker and the only position we are consistently stronger than the all blacks. If you honestly think Moore is anything less then a consistently international quality player, you have no idea.
