You might even think about flying Gill over, If Poey goes down another fetcher who is strong over the ball who can team up with Hooper would be handy. Otherwise our effectiveness at the breakdown is greatly reduced, or Hooper will have to change his intent.

I love the strategy of Hooper flying out of the line and a fetching getting their quick after.

If Phipps keeps playing the way he is we might need one......

I'd be surprised if Cheika calls White up if Horne goes home. Cheika will be backing Phipps to get the job done rather than replacing him.

Unless Horne requires surgery I think Cheika will give him more time to pass fit as he considers him an important part of his best team and not in need of urgent replacement in the overall squad.

We already have McMahon there who can jump in when needed for Hooper or Pocock. I hope we don't need further replacements but you would think that Cheika would go for someone who was in the wider squad.

The rumors in the media were that Lealiifano would replace Horne. If that's the case I would read that as Cooper being dropped even further down the pecking order (perhaps due to a certain video) because CL doesn't replace Horne really.

I have also read that Leali'ifano is likely to be the next in line for a spot in the squad.

I wouldn't read into it anything about Cooper though. That would seem highly unlikely. It would more be a case that he doesn't need as many wingers still because he's essentially down to his best 23 for every game.

Perhaps but he doesn't need any more playmakers either for 10 or 12. I would rather see Kerevi or Big T come in after watching Naholo, Savea and Fekitoa go on a rampage against Georgia. We don't have anyone that can play like that. Folau is different, more agility less speed.

I can't see LILO being brought in as being anything but a negative for QC (Quade Cooper).
As you point out,we are down to top 23.
What would be the point of bringing in cover for the cover?

The wisest choice is probably to bring in White, to cover injury if either Phipps or Genia go down. Most 31 squads have 3 half backs, we only got 2 and a half with Gits, mainly because Cheika wanted 2 opposing teams for the first couple of matches, those games are over so it's now time to focus on one squad and suitable injury cover for those guys.

Well, what would be the point of bringing in a new 5th choice winger (behind AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Mitchell, Tomane, and Speight) and now we may well see Beale on the wing.

If Horne has to go home you need to bring in someone and it may as well be someone who has spent a lot of time with the squad already and only just missed out.

If Lilo comes in and Foley missed a game do you really think he'd throw Lilo in as the starting 10 instead of Cooper? I highly doubt it.

I think it's a moot point,as I don't believe Cheika will bring him in.
Why wouldn't Cheika leave his options open?
But in the event that a winger is replaced now by a 10/12, it's certainly not a vote in confidence in the 10/12 already there, who can't crack it for a jersey.
IMO
And it's much more likely that its 12 not 10 that will be rested.
Its long odds that QC (Quade Cooper) will be a starter at 12 at this point of the tournament ahead of Lilo(ignoring the obvious replacement in To'omua)

Might be that Beale is viewed as a starting fullback and joker finisher, and if Gits is under an injury cloud for a game or two, having a bench option that can play 10 or 12 is pretty important, which it why Lilo would be played ahead of Quade.

I think we have more realistic 10 and 12 cover than we do 9.

That said I think they will retain Horne.

Slim 293

Stirling Mortlock (74)
I think it's wise to retain him for now unless he's ruled out of the tournament............

If another player picks up a short term injury over the next week or two that requires covering, then we have the option to send him home and make a more targeted selection.

It should be half back now that I've put some thought into it. If a player goes down 24 hours before a match we have cover and bench cover for each position except for half-back (unless you include Gits but I don't think we should given he's first choice 12).

Why? You don't like a player who can score tries and kick 50m goals to win us a Test match against the number one rugby team in the world?

Don't start me Seb v as same arguments that apply to cooper _ too inconsistent and hence risky

Yes if we call for another half back would be white and hence why I hope and indeed believe won't see cheika call for another half as injury replacement
