I would assume that the two consecutive years need to be current, in which case he doesn't qualify, nor should he.............

There's some mythology about Douglas some have. He had one very good Super Rugby season in 2014, and that's it. He was worse, way worse, than Horwill against the BILs and Horwill got panned. His international form was poor, overall. He was overlooked for the limited and departing Timani, it was that poor in 2013.

And to put that 2014 into perspective, he was a cog, yes a key one, but a cog into the dominant Tahs pack, which was the best pack in the comp. He wasn't the standout lock either, that was Potgeiter.

Douglas has gone to Leinster, and then gone poorly. Couldn't even make the starting side. Then got injured.

Putting him in the pedestal that some have, well, you are more than likely waiting for disappointment should he come back.

Douglas was great for the Tahs last year, and likely would've started for the Wobs if he had stayed in Oz............

But he wasn't entitled to a top up last year, and he doesn't deserve one just for coming back.............

I'm happy for him to return and earn one though.........

Yup, I agree with that. He definitely would've gotten a lot of starting chances at lock last year if not leaving. I fail to see how he's earnt a top up, particularly with poor to average form for Leinster.

So much controversy about Douglas. Rules broken. Rules not broken. Fair. Not fair. It's all bollocks. What matters is whether he provides an option, and if he does, then whether it improves our chances of winning the trophies on offer this year. The bloke might not even be fit to play. We have to set provincialism aside if we're to survive with our sanity intact.

Couldn't agree more. Since last year he has been talked up so much by certain people/reporters it has created as you say a myth to Kane Douglas. The last test he played if my memory is right(wales vs Aust) he was on for 20 minutes and knocked the ball on twice in 10 minutes and missed two tackles? Can someone confirm or tell me where the stats are?

Go to http://www.espnscrum.com/scrum/rugby/series/index.html

You can select what year you want to look for and they have every test and most stats dating back quite a few years.

The news releases from the Sunshine Coast continue to fascinate. I know it's just training, but still.

First we hear the Quade is sharp.
Then the 10-12 combination of Quade - Giteau is looking good.
Now we have Beale working on the wing.

Plenty of pundits have complained that we shouldn't do the "same old same old". But if this actually happens, expect the unexpected. Probably a trashing if the forwards don't "Cheika up", but if they do... Wow.

Where are the reports that Beale is on the wing?

It's on the Thursday Rugby news story here.

I reckon they'll fucking struggle enormously with Gits at 12 and Beale on the wing if it's true. With Quade there's 3 of your 5 backline players outside your halfback who are not dominant in contact on either side of the ball.

Although our locking stocks are in a state of transition, I've never really rated Douglas as the solution to our problems. He's a good physical, workhorse with plenty of potential but it seems he's getting far more attention ATM than he deserves.

He'd be better off staying in Europe getting the best form of tight forward experience available and then returning at a latter date.
