I am not as down on Phipps as most others. I thought he and Sheehan were about the same against Italy.

Phipps is passable, and certainly not the reason for our struggles in both the forward pack and backline.

Mate, I reckon his pass is very second rate for a top line player. I've seen many occasions where the ball from the scrum or ruck base has put KB (Kurtley Beale) under unnecessary pressure. We used to have a crack at Burgess because of his pass and I think Phipps is worse, unfortunately. In all honesty I would have preferred that we elevated McKibbin before him.

Thats exactly what I am talking about. Teams that play TPN target him because they KNOW he will go down even if you brush him. I give you a perfect example. When he dropped the ball cold in a tackle against NZ in Brisbane, no-one of thing ground included went near his head. He faked. YES FAKED. he had been knocked out. He actually looked up and then put his head down. The bloke is absolute disgrace to the jersey he wears. Any other player in that contact against England wouldn't have put on the show we get from TPN then and every week. Moore and Hanson are the answer. On a side note there isn't a player in any grade in this country who has the opportunity to play for Australia who would go to a coach and say he can't play because he is sore.. twice!!

Nice avatar :D

bad post though

You can't blame Deans for not managing the workloads. We don't have the luxury of the ABs to rotate. We just about have to play our best XV every game or else we'll lose Tests.. it's just a sad reality. Sort of a catch 22.

Its laughable that he is our 1st choice understudy and his passing is that of a Victorian Premier Grade prop.

He is isnt the only reason w eplay poor but my goodness he definately does not help

It's that sort of hyperbole that makes me struggle to take the Phipps-haters seriously.
.

Hyperbole?

He struggles to get passes to hand, i would expect most prem players and let alone international players to be able to pass a ball 8/10 without the recipitent havign to reach behind/infront/down/up to recieve it.

And that is a fact its rare fore him to get a ball perfectly into the have of an onrushing player.

His passing on the run is awful the reason he does those one hand flicks isnt because he is trying to be tricky its because he lack the ability to draw and pop.

He has horrible technique he always tries to throw the ball as hard as he can rather than just adjust his angle to make the distance, hence is inaccuracy and when he does change his angle he sends floaters to his recievers which either get them hammered or look liek they are a whicker away from an intercept.

Just because someone makes jest about him beign shit doesn't make it any less true, but to say his passable just to go against the grain of people paying him out is silly

Yet he made a line break and threw a perfect pass to Cummins at full pace to set up the only try against England.

He needs to improve a lot of things in his game but it isn't all terrible.

Phipps as a Wallaby more highlights the lack of quality halfbacks we have in Australia rather than a poor selection.

People continue to bring up the names of Ben Lucas and Richard Kingi yet these guys have played a handful of games at Super Rugby level at halfback. They are not realistic Wallaby selections at this point in time.

Absolute rubbish. 90% of his passes are fine. He is prone to the occasional blunder but as his time at test level has gone on those blunders are coming less and less. There was only one against Italy and you could make an argument that was Timani's fault anyway.

And if you don't recognise that the statement "his passing is that of a Victorian Premier Grade prop" as hyperbole then I think we are done here, you are well beyond the point of rational argument.

What fine as in they get to the vicinity of the player so its fine? or ok as in? Perfect for players to smoothly run on to?
That Timani one was not the only example. I can think of one where on the run he through one the went behind Barnes and one where he through such a slow, lobbing flat pass that the recipitent (moore I believe)was lucky not to buried.
That pass to cummins was more ass than class and everyone know its to prove this point he uses the same pass in this game only for it to miserably fail.
Usually I would class it as hyperbole but in Phipps' case chances are its probably holds as much merit as sayigng he make 90% of his passes

We should give a lot of credit to the Azzuri, they played well above expectations in the second half.

Plus the playing surface was diabolical, and the pitch was far too narrow.

We were very luck to escape with a win, but that is what good sides manage, winning away from home when they probably did not deserve to.

What team you support has nothing to do with it. You have basically called TPN a faker, which is a huge accusation to make without evidence.

And simply saying 'two super teams are aware of it' (again with no factual backing) doesn't make it better.
.

Ok Barbarian, Faker is maybe too hard a word but I am sticking with soft. There are 2 clubs one being the Reds and the other the Force that know, will they tell you publicly? No way in the world do they know it and use it you betcha. How I know it well that doesn't matter because you will believe me or you won't either way I don't care. Tomorrow I will post a video of TPN to prove a point from just one moment from just one game this year.

I agree, we weren't great. We had a period of dominance (first 30) and we didn't dominate as much as we should of during it. Most good test matches (even ones with blow out scorelines) won't have a full 80 minute period of dominance by the winning team.

That being said the Azzuri are making massive strides. They have a young and promising centre combination and a great forward pack which is for the most part right in the middle of their career (though their front row is mighty old). That new 2nd rower Fuser is 21 and he on fire against the Wobs, He just missed out on man of the match for mine, he ran often and dominantly.

The number 1 reason they can't match it with the top 6 nations teams is that they simply don't have any good 10s. Obviously Orquera was amazing this week but usually he's not a first choice starting XV player and even didn't always start at Top 14 level (haven't seen much of his Pro12 form this year). Hopefully Ambrosini turns into a ripper of a player and sees Italy floating more around 7/8 ranking in the world rather than 11/12 where they currently are.

There's no doubt in my mind that Italy are better than Scotland currently and could even perhaps be better then Wales (on form, not player quality).

It was forward.

The referee didn't call it, so it wasn't. And I don't think it was, on the overhead shot it looked OK, maybe marginal at worst. It's just the main camera angle was behind the play and thus gave a misleading view.

And even if it was forward, does this somehow make it less impressive? If it was called by the ref then yes, but if not?

Just pointing out that the proof of his not shitness is flawed. That's all.
