I have just rewatch the game. There are only a handful of rucks that Genia slowed the ball down at out of the couple of hundred he was at. I have no idea what your problem with his play is.

Agree, thought that was about as fast as he has got the ball out during the international season. There were times he did slow it down a bit but he was pretty good overall. His snipes were usually effective as well while they generally weren't during the WC.

I thought Mortlock looked way to over the hill for the Rebels. I am little concerned for them because there will be a lot of pressure to pick him. It's sad because he was a great player. Why can't he make an impact of the bench or fill in for injuries? Inman will do a much better job.

AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) had a great game. I don't rate him at fullback, mainly because he doesn't seem to have the all round game for the position. However, he really does benefit from the extra space. He is also able to use the men outside of him to confuse the opposition. They don't seem to know whether to stick to him or slide for the pass - even though he rarely passes. ;)

Without a look at the rule book, I always thought you could only start to charge after the kicker took his first step?
9.B.3 THE OPPOSING TEAM
(a) All players of the opposing team must retire to their goal line and must not overstep that line
until the kicker begins the approach to kick or starts to kick. When the kicker does this, they
may charge or jump to prevent a goal but must not be physically supported by other players
in these actions.

Fool.

Cooper is our 10, get over it. Defence aside he's our best. Just give him a bloody plan to work with!

Beiber is a 12, possibly 13 if Deans thinks that being a tad wider would make him more effective.

One of Mitchell and Ioane are ALWAYS injured, so there isn't a debate there.

Barnes is a terrible tactical kicker. If you kick 30 times, you're bound to get at least ONE right.

I think this is incredibly harsh. After that world cup can you really blame anyone for looking for alternatives? O'Connor did well last night and Quade has a long way to go to rid us of the mental scarring the RWC gave us. He'll surely bounce back, but until then people will have to deal with arguments for anyone of the talented 10s we have at our disposal.

Although I would like to see JOC (James O'Connor) at 12, if it was a straight pick b/w him and Cooper atm, then I would go with JOC (James O'Connor) based on Cooper's lack of form. A really good team should have two players competing for every position. I don't see what the issue is.

JOC (James O'Connor) at 13? That seems to warrant 'fool' a bit more IMO. But hey JOC (James O'Connor) is that good he can play anywhere, even 10.

As far as I'm concerned Cooper is done with. No need for him, O'Connor offers more whilst having none of his weaknesses. It solves the problem of where to pick JOC (James O'Connor) when Mitchell/Ionae are fit as well.

I like Barnes as well. Such a courageous defender and great tactical kicker.

I don't like Cooper's play or attitude.

What would Quade have done to defence like that?

I think slowed down and analysed it probably isn't but as I said on a refereeing forum, if I was reffing him for the first time I would probably allow the charge as soon as he does it. I think he needs to get a new technique, particularly since it is arguable that he may actually be in breach of:

He's been doing it for quite a while, it's obviously part of his preparation.

You mean people should be charging kicks down when kickers do their preparation?

And no, waving your arm does not start your action to kick... where do you draw the line? When Cooper kicks and wiggles his fingers?

O'Conner clearly keeps his feet still and brings his arm into position before he kicks... I honestly can't see any other interpretation of it.

I was at Twickenham, and just before restart at half time, JOC (James O'Connor) and Pocock went to have a word with the ref. Obvisously we could'nt hear anything, but from their mimicks, we could understand perfectly the argument made : while JOC (James O'Connor) raised his arm to show him it was only part of his pre-run routine, the ref started to do those little standing steps that JOC (James O'Connor) usually does while he raises his arm, implying that when a player does that, it's confusing everyone.

JOC (James O'Connor)'s technique has improved so much over the year that I hope it doesn't force him to consider yet another change. He was very accurate all day, although he still need to sort his distance if he wants to eventually contend for best kicker in the world.

Looking forward to the Welsh test.. Yesterday was basically a training run for the Wallabies. But i agree JOC (James O'Connor) was very exciting to watch, as always. Don't start the JOC (James O'Connor) vs Cooper thread just now though, the guy had just one "game" and Cooper is nursing an injury anyway. Pointless debate at this stage really..

Firstly, of course you'd pick JOC (James O'Connor) - Cooper is injured!

Secondly if Cooper didn't get injured we would likely have beaten wales by a lot more in the third place play off. Check out how well he was playing in the first 20 for proof of that.

U can only compare a few minutes of coopers world cup with JOC (James O'Connor) last night. When both players had barnes inside them. A calming 12 provides much more than the McCabe/finger show to a 10.

I'm guessing you also would have shitcanned Cooper if he'd thrown the same crap intercept pass O'Conner threw in the 15th minute?

Nope Cooper's already thrown his fair share of intercepts, but at least O'Connor would never try a cross-field kick when down in a quarter-final.

This is a forum full of armchair experts, if we ruled out pointless debates had prematurely we wouldnt have much to talk about.

Fair enough ! ^^

But at least let's wait until next week before we can properly assess O'Connor in that new role. Perhaps JOC (James O'Connor) at 10 the key Robbie Deans had been looking for all along, but we won't know that for sure until he is properly tested. I, for one, think JOC (James O'Connor) could become a real star in that role. I'll go as far as saying that Daniel Carter at his age didn't have anything on O'Connor.. food for thoughts.

A bit disappointing that, cant really read too much into it, Ioane needs watching and O'Connor was OK at 10, We are missing some key players in the pack, If we can compete there we have a fighters chance, Think I'll keep my powder dry till the game. ;-))
