The Wallabies team to play Samoa in the Test at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Sunday is:

3. Ben Alexander (Brumbies)
2. Stephen Moore (Brumbies)
1. Sekope Kepu (NSW Waratahs)

Reserves:

16. James Hanson (Queensland Reds)
17. To be advised

Interesting to see Benny A is starting at tighthead, with Sekope at loose head.

Kepu has been playing tighthead all year. I wonder if we can read anything into this? Maybe that Kepu is being thought of as the versatile prop reserve to cover both 1 and 3?

Pat McCabe is a very interesting experiment at 12. I like Deans' thinking on that one. McCabe can now cover any position from 10 back and very nicely too, making him an almost certain bench selection. It does mean that he's settled on JOC (James O'Connor) on the wing, and thinking about it I can see the sense in it. It gives continuity to our backline, and to JOC (James O'Connor) himself. And Beale, JOC (James O'Connor) and Diggers is a wickedly penetrative back three.

Timani is a great choice in the forwards. Like some others on here, I have big wraps on the boy. I think he's a future test player and potentially a very good lock or 8. Hodgson seems to be our backup 7 and that is good too.

The only strange one is Gerrard. But maybe that is forced by other decisions.

The two players I will be watching most are the McCs- McCabe and McCalman. You feel if they have a big game they could secure a starting spot for the 3N and beyond.

I think the Gerrard decision is based on Deans wanting him for the RWC. I've felt since early in the Super Rugby season that he would get a call up. Yes, a 30 man squad is small but our best 22 does not have a booming boot in it and that may be critical if there is a poor weather game in NZ. This game is about getting Gerrard a test-match run early.

That is a very interesting team. McCabe and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) in the centres, Alexander, Timani and Hodgson in the pack. I don't mind it, though I have some worries about the ball getting past the midfield. I wouldn't want to be facing the AB's or Boks with it, but that's not the objective.

BUT....WTF is Beale not doing in the starting line up?

One front row position on the bench is still to be named after prop Benn Robinson tweaked his knee at training yesterday.

Western Force prop Pek Cowan and NSW Waratahs prop Al Baxter will join the team at training this afternoon.

I really hope Baxter gets a run. Even though we can't risk him at the WC because of the unfortunate perceptions refs have of him, he's been a great rugby servant and really deserves another gold jersey.

He was probably intending to play Robinson at LH with Kepu on the bench.
When Robinson was injured he just pushed Kepu into that spot rather than rethink the whole front row..

Wouldn't suprise me if he gets a bench gig, Slipper and Ma'afu are still too injured to risk and Daley is a specialist loosehead.

No, but his point is, Australians a quick to criticize the Bols when they rest players.. but we are doing the same thing..
Yes the situations are vastly different, hut the principle is the same, why burnout players or play those with minor injuries..
Winning the Tri-Nations doesn't win you the RWC, just ask the All Blacks

Firstly, no South African teams were involved in the s15 final, so they all had a break, particularly the sharks and bulls players he is resting. And secondly he is resting them for about a month, while I am only talking about them resting for one week!
