Wallabies v Pumas, Bankwest (Parra), Sat 5th December

The Nomad

Bob Davidson (42)
We are not in a different world, we are in this one. We are exactly as good as our results - last if I’m not mistaken.

1 win from 6.

The end.
Three draws that we had a kick to win .

We didn’t deserve to win last night , as many have mentioned plenty of dumb rugby on display , but in Wellington and the first game against the Pumas we were the better team .

I’ll take the positive out of the six games that we played some shit footy , but still weren’t far off winning the comp .

Not good enough yes , but plenty of potential.

Despite being disappointed by last night’s efforts , still feel we are in a better place than last year. Get a couple of locks back , see the development and use of our young 10’s + Tate at 9 and feel we are in a pretty good place .

Maybe look at it as only lost two. Argentina were way better than anyone thought and would have troubled plenty of teams .

Weird that Tate didn't get more of a run. I'd have been keen to see him get a start with White off the bench at least once. Being the form 10 in Super Rugby didn't seem to get him far. So much for picking on form.

A structured flyhalf would have fed both Paisami and Petaia better ball. The backline was in shambles. We missed To'omua on the field to direct the backline play. Harrison needs to be introduced to the bench.

For your info, Harrison was quite poor in both of his hitouts against the Pumas and was woeful kicking from the tee. He was a definite second best to Lolesio in SRAu and Noah started to show his wares in his second test off the bench. No way he would warrant a start over Lolesio.

We keep trying to plug the flyhalf position with inside centres and the results are poor. Harrison is a specialist playmaker who proved himself in the Aus 20s. I think it’s worth developing (quickly) Harrison to bring better form to the backline. It’s no secret that what we’ve got isn’t working.

Both he and Lolesio will be better for another year of Super Rugby under their belts. There is no hurry. JOC (James O'Connor) and To'omua can drive the boat for now.

It's certainly no secret, but still a message many wish to ignore. The same old culprits from the last 5 years need to go. We are a losing side with the likes of Simmons, Hanigan, Hooper, JOC (James O'Connor), To'omua, Koroibete, Hodge and DHP. Let them seek out retirement plans overseas.

Yes but you don't develop a player quickly by throwing them to the wolves. Just look what happened with Lolesio's first game.

Drive us further down the World rankings more likely. Better start 2021 with the next generation. They only have 3 seasons left to rise to World standard before RWC 23. But more than that, I want to see them winning test matches over the next couple of years too. Time for the new broom.

We'd be much worse off if they all left. Our depth is nonexistant as it is. Just need to make better selection choices.

Blood Harrison from the bench. Not throw him into a bloody starting position. With To'omua on his inside over the next couple of years we will win more than 1 out of 6.

You know that not all those names are the same, and we could add Nic White or AAA on that list too.

Samu, 7A, Slipper, White? It seems your age retirement plan and annoyance at “the same old culprits” has a natural skew.

To'omua and JOC (James O'Connor) are hardly “the same old culprits”, old/mature sure but not part of the recent past. Did DHP actually get much time? Simmons won’t be around long but has actually been one of our best the last two games. You dont like it sure, but Hooper is consistently one of our best. Hanigan is 25 and nowhere near retirement. Koroibete has an easy 4 years professional rugby in him. As does Hodge who is hard to replace on the bench.

I dont disagree that something needs to shift. But Brumbies rose coloured glasses to selection is not an answer. Not by a long shot.

I don't agree with all the players named but I agree with the sentiment.

Lolesio plays at flyhalf, and has already proven better at a higher level..........

I think we’ll need to see a lot of improvement from Harrison before there’s any talk of test rugby.

Or blood Lolesio who has proven to be better...

Harrison will need to outperform Lolesio and other flyhalves next year to get a shot.

I imagine both are regarded similarly by Rennie and co. Lolesio didn’t exactly shower himself in glory in his debut either. Both are very green and far from being first line test players. As said, another year of Super Rugby will help them and others along.
