Did anyone else think that Ferris lifted Palu "above the horizontal" in what I saw as a dangerous tackle - the one where Kaplan called out Ferris and Palu and said "there's nothing in it"?

Can a replay wizard please have a look?

TOCC,

While I haven't yet seen a replay, I have a funny feeling that QC (Quade Cooper) should have been sliding out in defense, and therefore BOD was his man. Could be wrong though.

While these moments can easily be blamed for preventing a Wallaby win, I honestly believe it is our game plan that lost us the game. Aimless kicking in the backs and directionless play. With a dominant forward pack there is no reason why we should be kicking the ball away. I find our backline alot more concerning than our lineouts.

The good news is...

It's been pissing rain here for a month. September was lovely, and the ground dried out a bit, but August was a washout, October went that way too, and there's been flooding way too early in the winter. Large chunks of the country are under water when I've never seen them flooded before, and the ground will be farking sodden.

Forecast is for rain all this week, btw. Heavy, too.

Thommo, don't give up your day job. You'll never make it as a weather forecaster. :lmao:

Don't get pedantic on us and claim you were the messenger and not the author. :)

Digby. All the other blokes were covered but he was in no-man's land - you can see from the angle they shot from behind the posts he's barely marking the shadow of the guy outside him.

Jeez we blew that one - can't win a game without primary possession, and Giteau missed a couple of sitters. You expect the Irish lineout to be competitive but we basically gave it away because our coordination is shit. This year alone I've played in teams with snappier lineouts than the Wallabies - GET THE FUCKING BALL IN!!!!

While you can't blame Kaplan for that result, he is a fucking pillock of the highest order. The first time we utterly destroyed the Irish scrum (as opposed to just dominating it) he gives them the short arm. In the meantime, Pocock should have been awarded about another 4 penalties, and if Palu's tackle (and I use the word because it was exactly a tackle) was worth a yellow card, then Kearney's shoulder on Elsom as he went in to score was a red card and 6 weeks. Yes I'm kidding, but Kearney's was a heck of a lot more shoulder work than Cliffy's effort.

It was just a perfectly timed hit right on the ball and Kearney just bounced. Happens when you hit the ball instead of the chest sometimes. He's bloody lucky he ran onto Cliff with the ball or he could still be picking his ribs out of the turf at Croke.

Like others, I have no idea why we tried to just sit back and kick when we were only one try ahead. There was acres of space and some Irish forwards who'd been beaten senseless - run through them! I still don't think we're fit enough.

And if we were going to go up against Ireland in a kicking game (akin to taking a rubber chicken to a gunfight), why not bring Smith on at 8 to speed up the defence?

1 Robinson - the fucking man at prop, giving the perfect display of a good little man beating a big man to death with his own height (and spine)

2 Moore - you're the one throwing, so you get most of the blame. Whatever you're doing, change it - tell the locks what you're doing before the throw, and just get it in there. If you're going to lose the ball, do it quickly and get on with the game.

3 Alexander - made a couple of carries in close as he should do, and then stopped that shit and got into the tight work. That's what I want to see from my THP. Should have probably put a bit more pressure on at scrum time against an inexperienced opponent.

4 Chisholm - some nice runs and good breakdown work. Not afraid to get dirty.

5 Horwill - needs to take charge of the lineout properly and call Dan Vickerman before the Wales game

6 Elsom - much improved performance on last week though it must be said the Irish back row were fairly muted unlike the Pommy flankers

7 Pocock - youngest forward on the field I think, and eclipsed everyone

8 Palu - great on the run, poor in the tackle. Hit of the season to flatten Kearney with that bullshit yellow card

9 Genia - bit quieter than last week. Couple of dud passes but overall a good game. Hesitant at points and still doesn't seem to be getting direction outside. When that happens he needs to just act on instinct.

10 Giteau - so good, yet still so bad for someone with his depth of experience. The kicking was brilliant at times but butt-fuckingly awful at others.

11 Mitchell - are they actually getting any ball to him? I'd like to see him come in looking for work more often and just playing off the top of his head.

12 Cooper - yeah not the spark he was last week but then his opponents had a far superior backline and he still looked competent

13 Ioane - injured himself well early in the game. He made a tackle and then dropped like a stone. Might have been a stinger but he continued to drop off tackles though his ball running was good. Probably should have put AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) into FB at halftime and brought O'Connor on

14 Hynes - jeez I like his work ethic. Just fronts up for everything and does his job with no fanfare. When he gets some space he's going to carve up.

15 AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) - awful kicking. He should spend summer down at a park with about 10 footballs and practice. Runs hard, but look at the way Kearny chewed off territory!

our kicking in general play was often poor, our kicking for touch more so;whats wrong with the torp.?-the Irish fullback used it & carved off mega metres

I have another bitch about Kaplan, but this time including his assistant referee. The decision that O'Gara had a foot in touch when he caught the ball and therefore the lineout was where the ball was kicked was wrong. O'Gara caught the ball before he grounded his right boot in touch.

I agree Quade actually flew up & hit Giteaus man who was covered by Giteau & the other man was covered by Poock.

Hynes was by far the best back. An extraordinary work rate and tackle rate. Solid game from him

I thought the same thing at the time, Biffo. So I went back after the game and had a good look in slo-slo-mo: ROG got his foot down in touch about a kingfisher's wing flutter before he caught the pill. Correct decision.

Thank you ... but, please, never again spoil a good assertion with fact ;)

He did - Pocock was being held a little at the scrum and covered the blindside winger and the halfback. Digby was barely in shot when BOD ran through the hole

Unlucky Wobblies. I thought you did enough to deserve the victory and was gutted when O'Driscoll went over at the death.

Some random thoughts:
Pocock was damn good.
Palu desperately unlucky to get carded (or even penalized!) Although legal, it was such a brutal hit that in real time it just evoked way too much of an OUCH-factor which I think influenced the call.
That Wallaby scrum is turning into a real weapon.

OK, just watched the match.

I think we were average.

We were lucky Ireland were worse.

I don't understand our game plan, we were making metres ball in hand and getting done in the lineouts. So why were we kicking it so much and to restart a lineout.

If we knocked on, it would have been a scrum. where we were dominant.

The last scrum should have been a penalty for Hayes diving to the ground.
