Irrational hatred :bootyshake

Founded in observation and hard facts i.e. Gregan's style with refs was occasionally abrasive and pissed them off.

Hardy a balanced point of view. Gregan more often than not dominated the refs and we got a lot out it. You can't argue with that.

Back on the subject.

I most definately do not want to see Cooper defending in the centres vs this Irish pair. He must play the majority of the game closer to the ruck, with Giteau taking the 12 posi, or we may have a lot of problems, and remember why it took so long to pick him in the first place.

I suspect Deans might rotate Turner back in for Mitchell, and I don't really mind either way. I wouldn't be totally disappointed to see AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) at 13 and either Mitchell or Turner at 15 sometime during this tour, with Ioane back to wing - but not for this game.

Hynes being one of the strongest defenders in the team I would guess that he would be selected because the Irish could come out with some attacking flare.

Spookie, you may care to re-think that statement.

What we got out of Gregan's mouth was a set of international referees with dead-set hatred of the men in gold.

Kaplan's and other ref's assaults on Moore don't come by chance IMNSHO. As soon as Moore parts his lips, each ref must be thinking "here is another smart-arse, loudmouth in gold and he's from the same province as that bloody Gregan".

With Spookie back in his cage :), I can return to the subject.

Pocock for Smith.
Turner for Mitchell.

I'd go with the same team although we need to think very carefully about our lineout, an area the Irish will attack.

I think our midfield defence will be ok. As I mentioned elsewhere, QC (Quade Cooper) was playing first receiver for much of the game. I wouldnt be surprised to see a formal handing over of the 10 jumper this weekend (not that it matters too much).

I won't argue. I will ask you to provide examples though :)

No Biff, I disagree entirely. When G Smith was captain and couldn't persuade the ref, I seem to recall the attitude was "Gregan wouldn't have let them get away with it"...and rightly so.

Well the fact that the amount of moaning about the ref was gone up quite considerably is a good example. We got more fairness from GG.

Turner won't get in. He's been very poor.

We got smashed in the 1st half by the ref on saturday & I really thought there was some very biased decisions by the ref in the 1st 40 minutes but credit to the Wallabies they really played well & showed a lot of composure in the 2nd half & gave the ref nothing.

Anyway this will be our toughest test of the tour we have a few advantages going into the game & that is combonations & plenty of minutes on the park together.

The Irish may be at home but as a team you would expect them to be a little rusty early on. Thier strongest platform will come from the lineout but I'm expecting us to smash them in the scrum.

Haven't seen the Irish lineup but if we are worried about Quade's defence then just remember that they have ROG & this bloke makes Cooper look like Brian Lima. He really is a speed bump & I'd like to see big Cliffy Palu run at him all day.

Cliffy will have to run to fullback to find him... AH! I see your cunning plan! :)

I'm going to this game. I have poor memories of Lansdowne Road so I'm hoping Croke park will provide better ones. Last visit to Ireland by the Wallabies, the backrow of Waugh, Palu and Elsom got absolutely destroyed by their opposites. It was embarrassing.

Such as "what's the matter with you, you f------ c---, you f-------g blind?"

Fair?

Charming?

Surprised by how many are calling for Smith to be dropped for Pocock, particularly after the uproar when Pocock got picked for the Sloe.

Smith is still the better player, and should be playing against the better teams.

Do the Irish try & hide ROG in defence?

Smith is still the better player, and should be playing against the better teams.

Good news is Smith will be looking for a big game this weekend so he'll be looking to make an impression at the ruck so hopefully back to his pilfering best.

More bait and switch; teams can't resist trying to run through him, at which point up pop David Wallace and Tomás O'Leary in the ten channel, giggling like maniacs as they bosh the runner. In the meantime, your outside backs freeze to death.

In terms of real defensive weakness, Fitzgerald would worry me more.

Fitzgerald at 12 Thomo? Lot of people are tipping P Wallace for 12. D'Arcy is in a bit of a form slump but I think he'll start.

*Sticks fingers in ears*

Lalalalalalalalalala I can't heeeeeeeeaaaaarrrrrrr yyyyyooooooouuuuuuuu...!

Ahem.

Well, that nightmare vision apart, I was thinking out on the wing. He's not a great defender. Second Lions test, Fourie going for the try, Spiky Mikey Philips has his ankles, all it needs is for Fitzgerald (whose wing it is, and who's the last man there to try and deal with it despite it being visible from space) to get under him, a la De Villiers in the first test, or just bosh him into touch.

Instead, he just... Well tickles him, at best. Bad, bad stuff. And not the first time, either.
