I know what you''re saying but watchable to me suggests that the game would be entertaining to someone that is not invested in rugby.Watchable doesn't suggest great games. I agree last nights was edge of the seat stuff.
Both of them should have made the tackle. Giving Wright a pass because it was a “difficult tackle against a dangerous ball runner”, but not Campbell, is hypocritical. I’d argue Wright’s was the easier tackle, anyway. He had just stepped off his right foot and his momentum was towards Campbell, who never completely committed and was in position to make the tackle.
Call it what you like but if he keeps playing solid games he shouldn't be losing his spot to Banks or any of the wingers in the squad.So.... except for the foot he put wrong.
It wasn't difficult - he was turning a little slow but caught the guy easily and got swiped off with a simple palm, 15 metres out. Had him covered for all money.
For the record: I thought Campbell was solid for his second game at this level, but let's not bandy about the word "blinder" when "solid" is closer to the truth.
He shouldn’t have been subbed on for foley, that’s on Rennie. For wright or Kellaway, yes.For a guy who supposedly can play ‘10-15’ Hodge was pretty poor at flyhalf.
I think he should probably on be considered as outside back cover these days.
It was only really dominant in the first. Was parity otherwise.Funnily enough I thought Australia were the better team but pure stats gives a different image. We missed 28(!) tackles. We coughed the ball up 10 times compared to their 3. Shame we didn't get more change out of our dominant scrum.
Don't disagree that speed and quality of our cleanouts by the supporting players is the major factor, but it's simplistic to say that the attacking/tackled player is not a factor, beyond staying on your feet and or long/short placement. Footwork entering tackle, body height, core strength in twisting body to place... there is a reason some players get turned over more than others and it's not always their team mates fault.Molman: Cleaned up my act and will stick to stats (Unchecked) I had it 8-0 to the French, now it is hardly my best English but a beating is close enough.
One more point, if you don't think it was the speed of cleanout and support players to the tackled player, we are never going to agree. The tackled player can do nothing apart from attempt to stay on his feet (maul = lose ball or scrum), short or long placement. The rest is up to supporting players and they were a couple of seconds too late all day as per usual.
He shouldn’t have been subbed on for foley, that’s on Rennie. For wright or Kellaway, yes.
Incoming:
1. A post by @Braveheart81 critiquing Campbell's one misstep as if it encompasses his whole match. Then suggesting we need to work in more experience in the fullback position ("oh, I dunno........... Maybe Kurtley Beale, with Marky Mark (Nawaqanitawase) (Nawaqanitawase) on the wing and Campbell to suck some eggs in the training squad"). The final paragraph being a statement of opinion as if it's an established fact.
2. A post by @barbarian starting with "I'm a Jock fan, but........." followed by a series of statements that clearly show he is anything other than a Jock fan.
3. Me going fucking spastic at the ridiculousness of those posts and getting another timeout.
Except Pfizy was spot on when he said Campbell was solid. He did not have a blinder. Your standard must be very low if that's the case. Which isn't really a surprise given how we have been playing over the last decade.
Did more than Banks usually does, at the very least.I reckon for a first test start in France against the #2 side, it was a blinder. Scored a try and played a key role in the other. Missed a key tackle in the last 5 but other than that was faultless (I think?) in the air and always looked dangerous ball in hand. Read the game well and mixed it up between kicking and running.
But he didn't ref likentaht when France jackled and we were on attack. He let them continually steal the ball without releasing., Hands in the ruck, terrible in the side clean outs.Shiggins you prove my point. If we are too dumb to not know how Peyper refs after several years of him blowing the whistle, we deserve all we get.
