Agree with the lesson from history, but I can't help but be excited about this one.

These blokes (particularly the backline) have now all had plenty of time together both as Wallabies and elsewhere.

Threat comes from pack getting pwned e.g. Hodgson/Brown pummelled, Seagull reverts to type, Big Kev brings his S14 form, Alexander backing up THP goes wrong.....

They've also been on the piss and had an international flight in between.

Because of that we should definitely get there by the end through fitness etc. - like the pommy 2nd XV almost did.

Question is, will we dominate in the first half? That's what I want to see

In order, I want to see the following:

1. Dominant scrum;
2. Dominant and composed lineout;
3. Controlled and underplayed game from Burgess;
4. No aimless kicks;
5. Good field position from Barnes and Gits;
6. Wingers getting a glut of good ball in space from set piece and phase ball; and
7. A genuine willingness to run and counter attack from the back 3 and from turnover ball.

I expect as a minimum (and so havent listed):

1. Strong individual defence and defensive systems; and
2. Forwards to do the tight stuff before looking to run at SBW.

Whilst I've listed these as aims for this game, hopefully this is how the Wobs will play all the time.

Note tonight's game is scheduled to kick off at 6:30, not 7:30. How does 5:00pm at the fox + lion sound, Nick? Visitors welcome.

We'll be easy to spot, we'll both be wearing yellow scarves. ;D ;D ;D

My bad, 7:30pm it is. Saw 6:30 listed somewhere or other (probably the Daily Telegraph).

The Fox coverage starts at 6.30pm, and is concluded by 9.30pm so a kick-off time of maybe 7.30-7.40?

The Baas looked pretty good last week in the England game - at least until Schalk Brits went off as he, and to a lesser extent Rocky, had a field day.

They were ahead 33-3 or some thing like that with 25 minutes to go but some of the old legs gave out.

I wonder if Deans chose 3 fetching type backrowers to see how they would deal with the new regulation that the guy with hands in first at the breakdown is allowed to keep his hands on the pill to tug it out after the ruck has formed.

As I wrote elsewhere: so long as the refs don't allow the 1st arrival from the other team that same leeway it may work - and, of course, no leeway should be given to the guy who has gone to ground with the pill.

If the refs perform how they should then Smith, Hodgson and Brown should have a good night, but never underestimate the ability of the whistleblowers to come up with convoluted interpretations of the simplest things.

They are like the pious churchmen of the olden time, and even of these days, when instead of passing on the simple teachings of JC they have established a concatenation of esoteric creeds and rituals that seem, to them, more important than the teachings themselves.

But I digress - and am probably given the yellow card.

It's good to see the weather is clearing up in Sydney - fingers crossed.

Very impressive, but I don't have access to a dictionary today.

Rocky's out. Bummer.

Lyons will start at 8.

Injury unlikely to keep him out for "any extended period".

to just before the Tri Nations I suspect

Sounds good - I won't be in a yellow scarf though. Probably a Renegades hat ;)

From Telegraph

BARBARIANS drawcard Rocky Elsom has been ruled out of tonight's clash with the Wallabies at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Elsom has bruising around the bone in his left knee and aggravated the injury training with the invitational side on Thursday. His place at No.8 will be taken by another Australian, 44-Test veteran David Lyons.

Elsom, 26, was to be one of the main attractions at the international season opener, and would have joined Australians Phil Waugh and Chris Whitaker and former NRL star Sonny Bill Williams in the Baa Baas line-up.

He is likely to re-join the Wallabies next week ahead of next Saturday's Test against Italy in Canberra after re-signing with the Australian Rugby Union and Super 14 side the Brumbies following a stint playing in Ireland.

The injury is not expected to sideline the hard running forward for any extended period. A fine night is forecast for Saturday night in Sydney, with a crowd of around 40,000 expected at the SFS.

Sounds like he wanted a rest. Fair enough I guess
