I don't think people understand that Higgers is allowed to play like that for the Reds because of the tight work the other 7 members of the pack do.

He gets away with playing like that because the rest of the pack makes up for his lack of workrate...

The few games this year when the Reds didn't have Robinson or Gill at 7 Higginbotham was noticably absent...

In his brief apperance on the field against France on the EOYT he pretty much hung out on the sidelines...

I don't see any reason why his Super rugby seagulling isn't going to transform into the test arena?

Thankfully Elsom is the captain and his position is safe while he is fit... but I still think the Wobs need a better all round player as his backup than another tall outside centre...

What's very worrying is the lack of tackles he makes compared to his other Australian blindsides...

Yes I am trying to ignite debate, Elsom won't be fit to play Tri Nations but Deans said he would be in the training squad and TPN is injured. There that answer your question?

Elsom will apparently be fit enough to take on Samoa... so at this stage he is going to be fit for the Tri Nations...

I think Ma'afu is there only because he has been in scrum camp before. Expect him to be be cut for the RWC. And Gerrard probably because of the experience. There are a lot of unexperienced players in the squad who have only a couple or no test caps so I guess it makes sense.

Why do people keep excluding Rocky from 6? You may not agree with him there but Deans has already said he's the captain and therefore will be the 6.

Higgers won't make the bench on a 5-2 split because he doesn't have the versatility of McCabe...

Honestly, you've probably made close to 100 posts saying the same exact thing about Higginbotham. For the sake of people who don't want to be part of yet another repetitive antagonism-based forum is there any chance you could give it a rest? If you don't like Higginbotham and don't rate him for the test arena fine, it's an opinion you're more than entitled to. But why don't you take a breather and try saying something positive or constructive about another player? I'm sure you will enjoy it more than swooping on any post that mentions Higgers, or indeed many of the Reds, in a positive light.

Lighten up fella...

I make plenty of posts, both positive and negative, about plenty of players from various teams... including in this thread...

I don't think I need to lighten up....

I just think that constantly negative, pissy remarks show an inability to accept or tolerate opinions that don't agree with your universal truths...

Also, you only need one full-stop to end a sentence...

Look champ, no need to start a shitfight...

If you don't agree with my comments then actually respond to those comments, or ignore it and move on...

The rest of us were having a good discussion about the make up of the Tri Nations squad...

Back into it...

Despite the inclusion of Ma'afu and Gerrard, I must say that this is probably the first initial squad in a few years that I've generally been mostly happy with...

In the past Deans has made some odd selections that have involved picking 4 loosehead props and 4 openside flankers with inadequate cover for other positions...

Maybe that's just been part of the experimental process but this squad has a lot better balance to it than previous ones...

Slim those comments come up on most of the threads, it's very old and boring, move on mate.

Yes, but that's because despite the praise that Higginbotham receives from Reds' fans, many others are wary of his abilities.

And as this is a thread discussing squad selection there is going to be some debate about the merits of certain players.

I'd like to think as long as people don't take it too far there is going to be some nauseating one-eyed provincial bias, heated criticism, and a few jokes at players' expense.

Back to discussing the squads make up!!
Two years ago the reds were represented with 5 players in the wallabies spring tour. IMO they should dominate selections for trinations. Players like davies, lance, simmons, robinson could may well get the call up. This is along with the regulars fainga bros, daley, ioane, horwell (personally i think should be the captain) and obviously genia and cooper
Will be interesting what selectors and deans go for.

Higginbotham was pretty good last night with carries, tackles and turnovers. Sure, he also kicked along the sideline perfectly twice from the wing in the second half, but if he played like that every week he would be less controversial. He was pretty good mid season then got a little lost there for a few games.

He had little time on the field through the EOYT. For an observer to fault him on his 20 mins watching the frogs capitulate while AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) ran through them says more about the observer than the player.
