To be honest, I only want people in World Cup Contention playing against Samoa. Sure, both Phibbs and Phipps have had good seasons, but I'd rather have Giteau start at #9. Not only is Deans considering using him as a back-up halfback, but he's also played there before and it gives us an opportunity to test out our fringe inside backs.

On a side note, picking a Red-less team sure makes the Wallabies look pretty average. For Samoa, my team would be:

1. Benn Robinson
2. Stephen Moore
3. Sekope Kepu
4. Nathan Sharpe
5. Dean Mumm
6. Rocky Elsom (c)
7. David Pocock
8. Ben McCalman
9. Matt Giteau
10. Berrick Barnes
11. Adam Ashley-Cooper
12. James O'Connor
13. Pat McCabe
14. Lachie Turner
15. Kurtley Beale
-------------------------
16. Huia Edmonds/ Nathan Charles
17. Al Baxter/ Ben Alexander
18. Dan Vickerman
19. Matt Hodgson
20. Dave Dennis
21. Nick Phipps
22. Cameron Shepherd

Who else is there?

That team is far from average.

Don't worry, I think that halves partnership will be complimented by Dunning (who can step into first receiver for his kicking game) and Carter in the centres, and strikepower out wide with try scoring machines Ben Alexander and Scott Higginbotham...

Cooper will be hidden at the back (behind the goal posts) in defence...

Just winding you up mate. Everyone knows Dunning won't be selected for his kicking game as he is going to AFL apparently. Its all the rage. I heard he's using it as a bargaining chip with the ARU... pay up or I'm off. Not sure if they will believe him but you never know.

He's off to play with the frogs (Biarritz) in the Top 14 Duck L'Orange. I wonder how much we'll see of him.

This seems to have turned into a Fantasy Rugby thread from the Trinations Squad, only not very fantastic.

Can anyone remember a couple of years ago when the ARU wanted to hold that 'Possibles vs. Probables' trial for the Spring Tour? It would have gone ahead, if only RUPA hadn't have thrown a temper tantrum and demanded higher pay. It fucked the ARU around because they had to refund some memberships that advertised an Aus 'A' level match. Anyway, back on topic, I for one would not be against that type of match. It'd be excellent for those fringe players looking to secure spots. Players like Barnes, Giteau, Fainga'a, McCabe, Higginbotham, Hodgson et al. could really benefit as it would give them a chance to show where they belong in regards to the squad, and players like O'Connor and Ashley-Cooper could show which position works best for them.

None of what you just said there is correct...

The players were keen to play a trial game for free if it was a non-commercial venture... however, the NSWRU tried to use a match to generate some funding, and the players demanded their usual match fee, and rightly so...

And there ended up being a 'possible v probable' match before the EOYT...

Also, the Aus A game that was advertised as part of the members package was from the Pacific Nations Cup that the ARU withdrew from...

Don't mind Turner so much. Thought his form lifted in the last few games of the season. I wouldn't have him in my front line 22, but if there are a few injuries there are far worse people to bring in. Turner very rarely makes mistakes, and has been proven at international level. Can kick, can pass, can run. Similar to Cam Shepherd in many ways.

It was actually a combo of ARU and nswru, the aus a game got cancelled by the ARU, the ARU then offered the probables match as a make up match before they had it signed.

The match was replaced by an open training session, it was alright, but pretty disconnected and you couldn't buy beer.

Fair bit of uncertainty on the make up of the loosies for this squad. Assuming we take 6 I'd have Elsom, Pocock, McCalman, Hodgson, Higginbotham, Samo with Palu replacing either of the latter two if he is fit.

Not sure on who the appropriate bench option is. Hodgson, Higginbotham or Samo?

I'd rather have Pocock, Robinson, McCalman, Elsom, Hodgson, Samo. Probably won't happen though.

I'd rather Robinson in the squad over Higginbotham, but that essentially means you have 3 opensides which is a bit un balancing. Even though I would have confidence in Robinson and Hodgson playing 6, limits line out options.

It's not as good as it could be, but you're leaving some great players out. Given Kepu's inclusion, I assume you're including injured players. So don't forget Palu, TPN and Mitchell.

Who else is there? Timani, Pyle, Gerrard and Cummins for a start.

The whole backline looks off-balance admittedly with Giteau at 9 and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) on the wing. I dunno why people keep suggesting this. If anything, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) poor form on the wing this year at the ponies has proved its not his best position.

It also doesn't help to have one of our best midfield players at halfback...

We have options in every position without resorting to silly John Connolly style experiments...

Kepu will be right for the first test darkhorse.

On Beau Robinson, I would not pick him in the squad. The reason? He is a specialist openside, and as long as Pocock is around then we don't need him. So if Bam is fit it is a wasted spot. If Bam gets injured though you can bring Beau in to take the 7 jumper.
