I find your choice of adjective to be implausible.

I was actually thinking about this since my post and was hoping that no one pointed it out.

I knew I should have gone back and edited.

I'd call you a pedant, but I'd have done exactly the same. So in that case, you're a pedant and feel free to call me one next time I do a similar thing to someone.

I reckon this is pretty unplausible.

On what basis would a hotel provide this information to a coach of a football team?

In most situations, the Police would require a warrant to get this information.

Who's to say that pissed players weren't seen by Link himself? They might have been loud enough to wake him up (I've never encountered a pissed quiet person, btw) but he also might have been awake anyway. Those who remember tweeting Link would know he was often up and replying to people at 1 or 2am.

Geez it'd be hard to deny any allegations if the coach himself saw you fall out of a cab.

Don't blame Deans for this shit.
There were NEVER any reports of 1/2 the squad being on the juice till after 3.30 am mid week of a Test series on his watch.
Comparing 2 brats on a burger run stone cold sober with 15 players in a night club, and suggesting the former is somehow worse,is silly.
Credit to Link,he has addressed the issue. But it is his issue,it's not a legacy issue.

Don't believe I suggested one was worse than the other at any time. The comment was specifically related to @Muglair saying that dropping them for the Scotland test rather that the Ireland test was piss weak.

Doesn't really matter what the specific act is, it illustrates the discipline standards. If you think they were fine under RD and have nothing to do with the current issue, that's fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I think the whole thing has been blown up more than it should have been, and McKenzie announcing it at a press conference didn't help, although all the same questions would be asked I suppose if he didn't say anything and they were stood down. No good choices.

What the hell is the coach doing up at 4am on the week of a game?

I demand an inquiry and a one match suspension!

As he's a former prop and was in Dublin, maybe he was out getting a late night serving of chips with Irish curry sauce.

Very true. That's why I would prefer no information or all the information. A foot in each camp just muddies the waters.

According to the SMH article, assuming it is correct (which can be a stretch these days) the punishment rationale was: "It is understood the players who were reprimanded verbally were in very soon after midnight, the written warnings were in before 3am and the suspended players came home later than that."

If this is correct, the issue is how late they were out, not how much they drank. But Ewen has instituted an alcohol ban, so was it alcohol or lateness or both? Ewen also referred to the punishment depending on whether the player was a starter, reserve or surplus to requirements but now that doesn't seem to be the case.

Again, I hope Ewen was clearer with the individual players because the public is getting mixed messages about the rationale for the punishment.

I am not defending any of the players who were out late or who drabnk excessively. They may have warranted punishment. I am simply saying that the released information plus the informal reports suggests a lack of consistency in the rule-setting and punishment.

That said, the players who were in "very soon" after midnight but have been reprimanded on the basis of an "expectation" probably can feel a bit hard done by.

Think we'll just have to engage Tony Abbott and his 3 star general to come into the management team to teach Link how not to release information/reasons to the great unwashed public.

Fixed. It is implausible that Link would pass up a pie for chips and sauce.

Perhaps we should commission a forensic investigation to determine both how many drinks were consumed by each player and how affected each player was by these drinks?

Give it a rest. The later you were out, the more you were assumed to have drunk......a laughable assumption in any workplace related matter. Fairly reasonable assumption. No players seem to (publicly) being making any qualms about this know so they likely agree.

They don't have a drinking problem. They only drink when McCaws offside.

(apologies if somebody else has written this further up).

So Mowen has come out and said he has been on a drinking ban for most of the year and that performance and alcohol don't mix, yet people still defend the right to go out drinking midweek because it technically wasn't against the rules.

sure ILTW, but then words like 'sessions' are still continually used, not like just now but the (little) media I have seen on it.

It surely now is about the LATENESS, not the 'sessions'?

Seriously, how much alcohol do people realistically think was consumed? I actually don't know, has it ever been said? What would be an accurate guesstimate?

Enough with the 'sessions' I reckon, unless of course they were fucking pissed as

My understanding is that most of the support for the drinkers evaporated when the specifics became known.
I don't think anyone condones sessions that go on till 3,30 mid week.

Ironically I was in the midst of my own Dublin 6 adventure when I posted this

The manager of the bar they were at said they went through 3k of free drinks.

Now, that's Euro, and European alcohol prices, IE 4 euro a pint, not the 10-15 it would be in a similarly flashy joint in Sydney.
