Wallabies 2026

Andrew might've lost a bit of pace and as we know that's fatal for wingers. He's a clever systems player, not a coincidence that he looks best with a strong flyhalf. Whereas Wright is very much broken field and probably doesn't suffer as much from having a terrible 10.

Don't forget Petaia will theoretically be in the mix.

With Petaia and Wright available i think Kells may have played his last test for a while. Les will have his favorites and the 50/50 calls will go to players he knows. Kells organisation is probably better at FB than Petaia, but Jordy has a solid boot, tough defence and can break a game open.
Having said that, Jordy would be great back at OC with JAS filling in at FB.

All very interesting points. I think Petaia has potential and looks slick but needs more time in the saddle (whether it be 13 or elsewhere) to build some cohesion. He is the type of player who I think needed to come back to Aus to build a case for WB selection...

What grinds my gears is that Jorgensen, Nawanganetewase, Sua'alii, Ikitau, Wright are all top 5 in the world in their respecitve positions globally, but we dont have a flyhalf that can UNLOCK them ...

Another question for the brains trust; if you're given the task of winning the Rugby World Cup in 2027, who are you selecting at Flyhalf to get this backline scoring? All players (local / overseas) are avaliable for selection.

What utter garbage from Phil Waugh:

So you believe the Wallabies are in a stronger place now than a year ago?

"Yeah, without doubt. From where we were 12 months ago and the amount of experience we had, we have more depth, we’ve got a higher level of resolve, and we have a higher level of inner belief you can’t fake when it comes to competing with the best teams in the world."

"we’ve kept the Super W competition the same as how we delivered it in 2025. That’s a really compelling player proposition in terms of the schedule. And we’re very confident it sets us up to invest as much as we possibly can in 2027 through to 2029."

The game plan is also very important to unlocking the talent. Schmidt had them playing so narrow it was impossible for JAS/Jorgo etc to get the ball in space.

Pretty status quo yeah?
No glaring omission or inclusions?
Pretty sure it's just every wallaby player from the past season who is still active and based in Australia, plus Swain and De Lutiis (who were regularly in squads). Most surprising thing about is that there really isn't even the hint of someone new (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).

He's a fantastic athlete and got that freak ability to finish a try. I'd see him as Winger.

He's very much a League player and if to compare to others who have come over I'd say he's most similar to Timana Tahu. They have a very specific athletic skill set and physical presence that might be found out if chucked in the Centres. He is definitely good under the high ball which is great for a 15 to go along with genuine speed but I'm not sure how much of a kicking game he'd have. Can place kick though.
Timana Tahu was a dud at rugby... good comparison! In other words... don't buy him.

We don't have a flyhalf to UNLOCK them .... because we are playing this crap game plan off 9!

Exactly Homer! Jorgo touched it once v England. Such a great player and no plan to get the ball to him! Schmidt's attacking plan was garbage.

It's up to some great Super rugby form I guess for players like Gamble, Meredith and even Hastie to be included later.
Very hard to see Gamble cracking the squad given his age and the players ahead of him. A great super season (and importantly a consistent one) would really only be half the battle, he'd also need two of McReight, Tizzano and Reimer to vacate the space in some form, without Scott also pressing his case.

Hastie is also probably a while off, Teddy Wilson is a much better chance of a call up, but either probably still need injury to someone else to get a chance next year.
