Wallabies 2025

scrumhalf

Does anyone know when the wallabies squad gets announced for lions tour? Will be interesting to see who gets picked as at the moment i feel a lot of players are on the fence of selection.

What are we to take from this part of today's interview with Australia's incumbent captain, 1 month out from the Lions tour

Wilson revealed he had not spoken to national coach Joe Schmidt about the forthcoming baptism of fire the Wallabies will receive from the touring Lions, instead focusing on delivering a title to Queensland.

I think I've heard in a few places the initial squad will be named once all the Australian sides are out of the finals, so no concrete date on that one, but definitely not before the 2nd of June.

That said, I imagine there will be 'training groups' announced for the teams as their seasons end (similar to last year) that include all the players in consideration. That could start with the Force as early as next week, given they've got a final round bye and are already out of contention for the finals.

So is Alex Hodgman going to be fit in time for the series? If he's out, perhaps there's a decent chance that Aiden Ross gets a call up.

So Potter, Carlos, Williams, Robertson, BPA, Champs and Pietsch, maybe Whitey will train on. cant see anyone else getting the nod.
I imagine Donaldson, Grealy, swain, Beale Stewart and Kuenzle will be asked to train on as well. Not necessarily picked but will want them to stay training and get infront of wallabies coaches

Donaldson and Swain yes and if we are really stretching the kit budget for the train on squad maybe the others but if Jorgo and JAS are fit I dont see the others being involved too much. Rather stick on with the Force for their game. A guy like Flook is more likely to get a fringe spot inclusion.

They're referring to those separate SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) team training groups prior to the Wallabies' squad being selected that were fairly meaty...

I would expect Stewart and Kuenzle to both be involved as the former was a Wallaby last year, and the latter was listed as not being selected due to injury.

I understand. If they want to train on by their own directive go for it but I personally don't see them in the national selection picture for the Lions and then the WC.

Guys on the edges got their chance v Wales last year and many not included again later on.

It is going to be a bit different to a normal year in the sense that no one is going to stop training once the season is done - they've all got a game against the Lions to prepare for.

I do still think there will be those wider net initial training groups though, the point of them is at least in part to ensure the next 10-15 guys outside the squad are somewhat prepared to make the step up in case of emergency. It may also be RA's way of tapping some of them for the Aus/NZ or Indigenous/Pacific games and making sure they're prepping properly for those as well.

It's good to be back on the forum, had a little break since last year. I'm excited to see how the Wallabies hold up against a strong lions team with a large mix of talent. As a proud Englishmen I will be supporting the Lions, however I do hope that Australia can pull together a good structure as we are all anticipating a high quality three games of rugby.
