Wallabies 2024

yet it was less than a year ago many here were stating that he would never make it as his defence was weak.

The overwhelming opinion on the forum was that he'd been a bright spot on that second Australia A Tour and performed strongly when called up to the senior squad: but he had a rawness to his game, some defensive frailties and a lack of versatility (see how lost he still looks at fullback). As a consequence, many believed that with Koroibete and Kellaway established as First Choice Wingers, and the likelihood that someone like Banks, Wright, Hodge, Beale or Campbell would end up getting the fullback spot, he would struggle to achieve consistent selection this year.

But lots of those back three options fell over in one way or another, and he just kept improving with more time in the saddle for the tahs.

It was prior to season 2022 that people worried about whether he'd kick on and realise his potential - that's when he was outside the Tahs starting side and struggling with his defence and decision-making in contact. It's been a steep upward trend since.

What a truly great cluster fuck if in addition to the World Cup, our aggressive pursuit of league players results in us, now in a weaker position financially, losing our star players to league because we’ve pissed them off so much

Marky Mark (Nawaqanitawase) is a good young talent, but if he wants to go I don't think its as big a doomsday as is being portrayed. Wingers aren't exactly the most pressing issue with our squad right now

And I don't think we should be worried about pissing players off, as firstly this isn't meant to be a holiday retreat, and if they think life will be easier in the NRL they might get a rude awakening

They might, correctly, think life pays more in the NRL though.

I don't think he will go. If he does then it's a pity but we have lost so many good talents over the last few years. I wouldn't have been surprised if he went to France but the NRL? Does he have a background in league?

Played league and rugby as a youngster, and then made the First XV at St Patrick's Strathfield before a coupla rep sides. Mark was also a champion schoolboy athlete, hence the speed.

According to the SMH last year WINGERS · Average salary = $451,602
Which is apparently less than he's currently on. That could be bullshit though.

I'd be sad to see him go but if RA are letting this contract negotiation take up more than .1% of their time I'll be more sad.

I reckon he's better than average. And if his salary gets a cap exemption he won't be short on suitors.

Agree. French Rugby would pay far more than the NRL.. then just pick him for the Wallabies from there. More of our young players should do that. More games, more money and it worked for South Africa. Super Rugby goes from February until mid June? Not long enough and not enough games for the players…
