Wallabies 2024

Rennie fucking sucked get over it.

Jones may well prove to be the wrong choice, personally I wouldn’t have picked him but Rennie was a dead man walking

it's all relative and with the benefit of hindsight - relatively speaking, he didnt suck!
rugby systems are the issue. hamish if he sticks around needs to shut the fuck up and get on with the job of reform.

Rennie didn’t suck he was just average
Jones is making Rennie look like a SuperCoach atm
And at the same time creating horrible press for the wallabies and Aus rugby
Just because Jones has failed that doesn’t make Rennie good, also how much of the short term failings on the board wanting to build to the future?

I reckon we call time on this discussion and if people want to continue it that someone creates a new thread about it.

Yeah, it’s done. We all get it, we all hate it.

As much as I doubt the outcome I really hope we see Waugh make change. Yeah he has a resume that fits the business as usual type for Rugby but unlike leather sniffers like Pulver he bled for the jersey and I trust is shattered about what’s happened.

Yes correct but we must agree it has been an absolute clusterfuck with jones this year the way he has carried himself and how far the team has fallen backwards

The biggest concern I had with Eddie coming in is his autocratic nature.

Modern coaching is more about player empowerment than being a hard arse.

True.

I think Rennie himself suggested he wouldn't be looking for another 4 year cycle after the RWC anyway.

Would have been a better handover process, for sure.
It would be nice to keep one through the term of their contract, but not this one. Rennie should have been able to see out his term.
Wallaby coaches are harder to keep than prime ministers.
Giving a 5 yr contract is ludicrous.
Start with two years with KPIs attached to be met to be eligible for another two year extension. Why would you do anything else?

If there are no KPIs in the contract and EJ (Eddie Jones) had carte blanche on selections, assistants and the way we were going to play then the people who signed him should go first. What a complete fuck up……….again. He had complete freedom to do whatever he wanted and we now see the result. It’s just bad business and rugby is now and has been a business for a long time.
They cannot afford to pay him out but more so cannot afford to keep him. If he stays a lot of people will walk and rugby in Australia will lose even more credibility.

What a bunch of nonsense

All you are doing is making excuses for Rennie because he is a New Zealander

I’m not a “fanboy”, as I have said numerous times Eddie Jones has been a failure. The fact you can’t even admit Rennie didn’t do a good enough job just shows how biased your take is. Nothing was ever his fault

The funniest part is if Eddie is such a bad coach, shouldn’t Rennie be hauled over the coals for losing a Home test series to an Eddie Jones coached team? Or was that someone else’s fault too?
Maybe the Wallabies suck and Rennie was doing a good job with the cattle he had available?

He clearly was a better coach than Jones.

Our U20s and U18 sides remain competitive (for now) with NZ and SA. Australia still has enough remnants of a player base to recover ...
It was interesting listening to Andrew Mehrtens, Jeff Wilson and Tim Horan talk about this on Stan last nite. The comment was made that ‘formulaic rugby’ can win and be successful at this level but it’s not good enough beyond this level.

It’s something I’ve definitely seen and thought watching my son play over the years. As someone who is looking to be a coach next season, all of this current chat and talk about rugby is getting noted and kept for the things that I want to try and achieve in 2024.

Jones was a good coach not that long ago but he is now too caught up in his own old hype. He made some really poor decisions, many more than good ones and his media front has been a complete circus. Funny at first but now it just reflects poorly on the Wallabies and RA. They are a laughing stock.

Any Dave Rennie evaluation should look at the facts.

1. A wallaby coach in a covid bubble who played majority of his Rugby championship games in QLD

2. Couldn’t win with current squad so asked RA to expand the Gitea law.

Those 2 nuggets are pretty important when it comes to evaluating Rennie… look how horrible the guy was when he had to coach outside of Australia…. The spring tours were disasters

I would much rather lose to Ireland and France by 1 point , than the results we have now.

agreed lets focus on Wallabies 2024... which players currently in the RWC squad might fall out next year, and who has missed out that might come back in.

As I watched the Brumbies, I feel from them Wright to have a big year, both young hookers and Lonergan. I'd love to see Toole given a shot, but don't think Eddie likes small wingers, but the turn of pace is so electric that his going to be there or there abouts

I don’t think Toole is out of it. Keep scoring tries and he’ll be in squads.

I think we may have seen the end of Nic White, AAA, Kerevi, Porecki, Arnold

Tom Wright is a Winger at Test level. He has great skills but you can’t trust him at Fullback. I think Pollard can go past Lonergan if he stays fit. Has the frame to hold more size and can be a beast around the field.

The Halfback job is completely up for grabs IMO even though I’ve written White off. McDermott is most likely but hasn’t set the world on fire and IFL was a bolter.

Backrow will be made up of Valetini, Leota, Gleeson, Wright, Hooper. McReight and Swinton could feature. I think Eddie might like Swinton if he can be fit and keep his head.
