Wallabies 2023

Surely if he did get released you chuck him on the sevens circuit with maybe a token appearance at a tahs game like Moana Pasifika if fixtures don't get flipped automatically (as a sensible format would, hence no guarantee). Not because they're easybeats as the tahs proved on the weekend, but leaning on the Islander vibes.

RA aren't paying 750k (his 2024 salary?) for a 7s player.

Super Rugby then 7s.

Yeh if the Roosters wanted to flick him for 2024 season they’ll need to front some salary to whomever takes the contract.

I’m not sure Joseph is going backwards currently, but he’s been asked to play differently than he would probably like. I reckon he’s a natural fullback and the sooner he can play there the better. He’s clearly grown tired of the wing and his work in tight isn’t up to scratch yet to play centre.

Tighthead options past AAA & Topou - both probably out for the first of the TRC and need 3 for the WC, would Talakai get the nod?

No need to panic yet

My very unbiased Super Rugby Form XV:
Matt Gibbon, Matt Faessler, Sam Talakai, Nick Frost, Jed Holloway, Rob Valetini, Fraser McReight, Langi Gleeson, Jake Gordon, Carter Gordon, Corey Toole, Lalakai Foketi, Len Ikitau, Mark Nawaqanitawase, Tom Wright.

Richard Hardwick would've been #8 if eligible. Centres were difficult to pick. Player of the season is Carter Gordon.

Hard to find too much wrong with that. Petaia was on track for selection on the right wing before injury. Could argue Ryan Lonergan ahead of Jake Gordon.

Sualli is going backwards at the roosters. Hopefully his manager can get him to Rugby next year
That's what Buzz Rothfield on Fox and any of the Ch9 boot lickers are spinning since it was announced he's moving to Rugby. Right before that he was been spoken for Origin.

He's a 19 year old in a team not playing well that has changed their Halves, lost their Hooker, dropped Centres (but he has always been selected) and main Assistant Coach has been sent packing....Yeah it's his fault. If he's playing week in and week out NRL it will make him a better player for when he's playing Rugby.

If they could work something out for next year I'm all for it but he is still developing physically and mentally. Unless the Roosters can sign someone else I don't see them weakening their squad. NRL teams can have a high turnover and it can happen quickly.
If he went to the Tahs early, where would he play? What would happen to that players contract?
13 immediately and figure it out with Perese. He could find a deal somewhere. Rebels are always looking for Centres

Agree with that but maybe pick Lonergan over Faessler

mmmmm

I think I would prefer Valetini & Gleeson to share time 8, with a worker\lineout option

White @ 9 - Gordon isn't in the same class - he may come up with a run away, but in organising and structure white is streets ahead

JOC (James O'Connor) @ 12 - I think he is the form 12 and a natural 12, ball playing 12

Kellaway @ 15 - I think after Ikitau he is our next quality back, he just continually makes good decisions and gets through that defensive line to get front foot ball

This was my form of super, not what I would select for Wallabies. Valetini played 6 this year and Kellaway has only played half a season in different positions. I would prefer him at 15 for Wallabies too, rather Wright on the wing.

To erase any doubt - Eddie well and truly committed to the wallabies long term with eyes only to this World Cup
All he said was "I am here for five years,” he told the Herald. “But my only concentration is this Rugby World Cup, so I don’t think past that.”

I wonder what he will think if we are bundled out of it. If we get to the finals or win it, I guess he will stay (most probably) but he doesn't tell anyone what his actions or thoughts are and they depend on circumstances and opportunities. Similar to most (few?) here who work for a living.

FP, following your and others suggestions regarding Gleeson I have watched him and am still not convinced he is an 8. Not totally on board with his Wallaby selection either. He doesn't run smart lines nor does enough work off the ball to be close to what Valetini brings. His best opportunity is to develop some skills over the ball and work at becoming the big fast 7 we have not seen for a while.

The form Australian super rugby 8 is not suited to 8...

I really could not disagree with that more.

You know he was a 7 right, he has the pilfering ability already, saw glimpses but that's not been his role at the Tahs - could easily be for the Wallabies though.

He hits hard and runs hard, he ain't about smart, he is about hitting hard and running hard - that is his point of difference

His work off the ball if fine, he is played wider for the Tahs so he can be less involved if the game plan doesn't work, but he works hard in the trenches

The over the ball skills? The Tahs play to hold play up trying to set up and close out mauls for turnovers. They are trying to slow up the tackle to allow the defence to spread

With that game plan, there is little planned over the ball stuff - the game plan doesn't have the chopped tackles with units diving for the ball planned for
