Nawaqanitawase has only recently learned how to defend on the wing. 13 is (or used to be) the most difficult backline defensive position.

How many times do you guys need to be proven wrong over early picks for players...Carter Gordon - too young, T. Hooper - too young and not this year, Tate as 1st pick 9 and that is only recent ones from the top of my head. I like the idea of a big fast 13 and maybe Dwyer will be right about that as well but not at this RWC.
He picked Horan and Little from under 20's to be Australia's 12/13 combo so he's no mug and not as conservative as most of our coaches and most here.

As Rugby Reg has pointed out in another thread - Berrick Barnes is probably the RWC role model for Carter Gordon game…

Carter already has that X factor that Quade provides, the little flick passes, cut out passes and def kicks.

What Berrick will provide is the high percentage plays and game management intricacies. Berrick never going to teach Carter to throw it behind his back or chip kick from his own goal line…

Quade is a high risk/high reward player… can’t have high risk plays in the test arena.

Fully agree with your post apart from ------- Maybe not in RWC but I would still have him there.

I still want a good explanation why all the countries are naming their squads now and not in 2 weeks.

and I don't care for the theory that it's to give Top 14 clubs joker deals to the ones that missed out.

I'm 90% sure it's because this is the beginning of the Regulation 9 release window:

9.10 For the quadrennial Rugby World Cup a Union shall be entitled to exercise its Right of Release for the Tournament so that Players are assembled at a location determined by the Union selecting the Player and available to train and/or play in warm-up Matches at least 35 clear days prior to the commencement of the opening Match of the Rugby World Cup Tournament.

Technically it started a week or so ago, but everyone was playing matches so it didn't really matter yet. With most teams now going into a few weeks off between last weekends games and warm up games a week or so before the kick off for the world cup, it makes sense to name the squads this week, particularly given they're all going into pre-tournament training camps. I imagine that also means the squads have to be RWC sized to effectively apply the release.

Nope I don’t think anyone thinking Carter Gordon at 10 or Tate at 9 was too outlandish. They were the next most obvious decisions for the respective positions. Nawaqanitawase to 13 however not in the same realm of selection thought process. Hence why people laughed at it

Am I alone in thinking Faessler can be thankful Uelese got injured as it let him show Eddie how good he is? Otherwise I fear he would have gone the same way as poor Ryan Lonergan and get dropped without playing a game.

It's complete nonsense to be dropping a player from the RWC based on one knock-on. That can't possibly be the actual rationale. I'm guessing EJ (Eddie Jones) (Eddie Jones) was leaning in this direction all along: drop as many existing players as humanly possible. Replace them with new players that don't have caps. Nothing else makes sense for some of these decisions except for that. The same goes for Holloway. He had one bad decision, in his first couple games with a new coaching staff. Meanwhile Richie Arnold has looked bad in virtually every minute of every game and he's still there.

Why else would you bring no capable backup #10 and keep Vunivalu? When you have Quade, Foley, JOC (James O'Connor) (James O'Connor), Hodge sitting around? Are any of them world-beaters at this stage? No. But they are far more useful to this team than a backup Super Rugby winger. On a team with 5-6 guys that can play winger without issue.

In case we forget Carter Gordon had a terrible display of kicking in one game. Didn't seem to hurt his stock whatsoever.

Maybe this approach by EJ (Eddie Jones) (Eddie Jones) is the right one in terms of shifting the culture or something, I don't know. But clearly some of these decisions have more to do a philosophical shift rather than an evaluation of on field performance. Out with the old, in with the new.

This would be it, it essentially forces the players outside domestic contracts into camp. Forces probably not the right word but you know what I mean, everything covered by WR (World Rugby) insurance from that period etc and potentially even costs of flights and accommodation.
