Wallabies 2023

Link was an amazing coach, did great things at the Reds etc. but saying he was the architect of Cheika’s success in the first couple of seasons is a really long bow. Just looked at team from Links last Rugby Championship game and the team from the RWC final. A total of 7 players were in the same starting side. No idea about injury context, but he surely didn’t draw on Giteau and Mitchell into the side.
Don’t keep him going!

Best game all year for Jock Campbell, no coincidence with him moving back to fullback. He’s still behind Wright and probably Kellaway but it is good we are building some depth at 15. Some other Reds players including Tate, Fraser and Liam Wright would have impressed Eddie on Friday night. Right across the Aussie super squads quite a few players are putting their hands up for the RWC squad.

Matt Faesler’s game has gone up a level since wallaby camp.
Good point Reg, big opportunity at no 2 with the Wallaby squad. Jordan and Mafi had awful trouble throwing straight last night for the Rebels, definitely a position a left field selection could come from.

Especially after his clear and immediate impact on the faltering Reds’ lineout on Friday.

His work rate and mobility around the park would have to be up there with the best at the moment too.

Toole has something no one else has in express pace
But there are still a few parts to his game he needs to improve on
Guys like kellaway and Wright are considered small to average size wingers now and they are mid 95kg, Toole is mid 85kg
He needs to learn to come in off the Bloemfontein side and involve himself more, unfortunately due to his size he does not have the ability to come in and break tackles and just defence lines like a petaia, he relies on having space only otherwise he is not effective in the game
If Jones wants pace and a point of difference he could pick Toole, but there are parts to his game still lacking
His defence is average, he puts an arm out a lot not making a tackle nearly hoping someone will come across to make it, he has missed tackles or got fended off in every game, defence is something he can improve on though

Vunivalu looks like he can't get past 3/4 pace. I wonder if it's a confidence thing or an ongoing injury? What ever it is, there is no way he should be anywhere near the Wallabies.
at this stage any of toole, pietsch or Marky Mark (Nawaqanitawase) are miles ahead of him. until last night i would have included kellaway but he got blown away by Marky Mark (Nawaqanitawase) for the try.

Now i'm not pushing Vunivalu for Wallabies selection, but his work off the ball has improved significantly the last 4 or 5 matches, he still has glaring issues his hamstrings been one, but at least his workmate is improving.
Yep. He just seems to actually understand the game a bit now - over and above catch ball run fast(ish)

In a game that these days is dominated by big guys, you need more than pace to make it. You need to have the big Ticker, South Africa has shown the way with their smaller players who are quick but can take and give a decent tackle.

Samu Kerevi is on the bench for Suntory's match today. Not sure if this is his first game back - but he's back. He's playing Foley's team.

Yep. First game back. Not sure how many minutes he played.

Koroibete scored a hat trick for the Wild Knights who will be very tough to beat in the final next week. He is still looking blisteringly fast. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CsM4...d&ig_rid=b3dc5f91-8961-4551-a415-e6397280b0f1

Foley's Spears beat Suntory 24-18 with Foley scoring 14 points including the try that sealed the match. They'll be pretty strong underdogs in the final next week.

Cooper played an hour in an easy win for the Liners in their second relegation play-off win including scoring a try.
