Wallabies 2023

Regarding Tate, it is worth bearing in mind that Eddie had a heap of good 9s at his disposal yet always same back to Ben Youngs, and an old Willi Heinz eventually. Live wires like Robson, Randall and Mitchell (Care was eventually discarded too) would get at most a few minutes then be discarded. Maybe doesn’t bode well for Tate…
He did bring Jack Van Poortvliet into the English set up as a 20 year old though.

Eddie does have a history of having favourites and also shit canning players but I don’t think Tate is that far off being in the Wallabies 23. We only have 4 9s you could honestly say have a chance to play Test footy and he is one of them. You could argue the English might have 6-8 that can get a job done at Test level or as good as Gordon. Unless you are in unreal form, if your the 5th best 9 in England your no hope but you could be perceived as hard done by.

Harry Wilson just re-signed for 2 more years for all the people that think he’s going to throw his toys out of the cot.

I’ll pay devils advocate here because I genuinely want Wilson to stay at the Reds, but if the reports of him signing a deal with the QRU AND RA, therefore you assume he’s getting some type of top up. Why give the bloke a top up? He’s essentially missed selection the last 2 seasons and currently not in this first cut (I know it’s not a real proper squad). Seems strange.

Interesting to see where the depth is in Wallaby positions going forward to 2025 and 2027, I've really only included those who are in the Wallaby squad, or were previously. Probably missed a few and made a few mistakes

I think Leota is the obvious choice in the squad for that role but he is wounded

Yes, he's in the Rehab group, so that signals that Jones likely sees him in his plans if he makes a full recovery from his achilles injury. He has a physicality about him which makes him the kind of player Jones has historically tended to like.

That said, his workrate and involvements have always been a tad lacking when you compare him to bench players like Samu who tends to inject himself better. I'm also not sure he is as good a lineout option as Ned or even Jed.

So, it'll comes down to what Jones is after and as I said, "at the moment" who are the options. Leota needs to get back on the park and put in some performances for the Rebels to show where he's at. Last I heard it was a May return. Any updates on that?

12 caps plus loads of potential and he's one injury away from being a key part of the squad.
