okay i've had a decent think about this, eddie is a seriously out there dude & constantly pushing new limits. He has picked Porecki for line out throws then jordy will run on off the bench to sit at the back of the maul & play only scrums or where a 2 has any contact & Nos will play around the park in general play, he's quick & supports well. All 3 of those boys make a pretty decent hooker.

Tate McDemott’s omission is shocking, but he also hasn’t been playing that well…

Same with Lolesio, although he’s been in better form than Donaldson.

I’m not at all surprised about Harry Wilson and Jake Gordon missing out.

Vunivalu is very, very lucky… as is Uelese really as Mafi isn’t there.

Uelese actually outplayed Mafi this weekend. Not such a bad call.

Mafi not considered because of inj, I thought it was strange at 1st when he was replaced at half time but guessed it was just to mix things up because we were down.

I'm more amazed the Blake Schoup is ahead of Gibbon. Gibbon has been fantastic black has been okay at scrum time in 1 game.

Early side so the ones in there trying to retain their spot, the ones not selected expect some of them to fire and try and get in

33 selected
7 overseas
6 injury and 3 rehab (what’s the difference here makes you think as Bell, Tupou and leota maybe certain once back? And the others I think Phillip, rodda, Fainga'a and mafi will be big chance to get in

so 49 selected overall, I think about 10 of the 33 won’t make it with injuries and overseas players selected so will be hard for ones outside to get in

surprise - Donaldson, schoupp, wilken, flook although last 2 playing well
Not starting in club but I like - uelese, pone

beale could come back in contention?

overseas I’m surprised Sio not selected - dominate loose head and we don’t have a strong 3rd loosie behind slips, bell
Arnold and foley surprises

unlucky - Wilson, McDermott, o Conner, Gorden, Noah
Possible close - Wright, dauganu, Campbell, Perese, Toole, muirhead, gibbon,
Odds and ends - HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes), swinton, gamble, edmend, talakai

I think Donaldson, flook, schoupp, uelesi, wilken and hanigan won’t be there once injury and overseas players back

I think the ‘not considered due to injury’ are just ‘not considered’. Otherwise wouldn’t they be in the ‘rehab group’? The difference could be that those in the latter group are part of the definite plans, whereas he needs to see more of the former group I.e. they would be be fringe selections.

You can't have been watching JOC (James O'Connor) (James O'Connor) too closely then.

He's also only played 1 position for the last 3 years, Hodge has played 10-15 including beating the ab's at 10. He is the perfect 23 can slot in any where with out a re shuffle at all & sides around the half way mark have to play ultra defensively because of his range. Our game name is a true 23 person sport especially at test level, just look at the boks at the last rwc

For a massive pay cut no?
Probably - who knows how it works with the Japanese deal

Bottom line he isn't playing so is unselectable.

I don't begrudge him for it at all, I just raised my eyebrows at the idea that he was trying to show his wares only at training. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

“I think he is working on the factory line at Hino, isn’t he?” Jones said. “He is making those trucks. Because he is not playing rugby at the moment. To get selected you have to play rugby. We don’t pick blokes who make Hino trucks.”

There is some surprises but then again if you look back at Eddie in his England time, he consistently favoured players that win contact. Always got the impression that he wanted players that he can dictate how the game is going to be played instead of players that negate other teams strengths.

Tate is the only surprise omission for me, but if this a replica of a WC squad then even that doesn’t surprise me. He’s such a brilliant player but his core passing and kicking is close to the worst of all Super Rugby no.9s. But he’s just soon good at the rest that he makes it work. Wilson just needs to get faster and stronger, start blowing players away in attack and defense, until that happens I don’t think he will play another test. Work rate is an expectation rather than a quality.

Uelese maybe the luckiest man in the squad but he’s the only one that could be world class based on attributes but his application is ordinary. Maybe Eddie thinks he can get that out of him.
