Wallabies 2023

Carter Gordon definitely the form #10 but does anyone actually think Eddie is going to go with an inexperienced/young #10 for the RWC? It's still JOC (James O'Connor) or Quade for me to be selected.

'We've got to put petrol in our players': Eddie Jones' Wallabies to play 'power game' with 'possession rugby dead'

He will bring star power to the game, especially at the national level. We have a potentially very good side, full back is a comparatively weak spot (with all due respects to the current full backs).
Saw some League coverage of him for the first time today. Scoring tries wide out with no defence in front of him, in the main. I reckon he'll find it harder in the top level of Rugby where the two extra players spread the defence usually to the sideline.

If that's what you think he was getting at you might want to have another read of his comments
It's Christy Doran comment TBH, a respected sport journalist over here:

James O’Connor is a 10 with low percentage or pointless kicking. You cannot play low percentage against international teams. Like his attacking ability but he’s not the future.

I’d be picking Gordon for next 5 tests. He’s a standout each week and last night with no current Wallabies in the Rebels backline. He will fit in with a bunch of class backs at national level.

I see more in JOC (James O'Connor) than this, especially around adjusting the time, pace and strategy of the game. Still, right now I'd be thinking just one of Quade, Foley (Eddie mentions him) and JOC (James O'Connor). Carter would either be the starter or no#2 depending how form plays out. After that I think Lolesio gets the nod given his time in the seat at international level.

Eddie's discussion on the origin of the term "finishers" (I think with Giteau) was interesting. I suspect a fit Quade would fit the box well.

Also the Eddie comment "the-players will pick themselves" - how could this apply more strongly than Carter?

So describe the Springboks game plan like a power game with possesion rugby dead is not correct?
It's incredibly reductive and not really the sort of power game Eddie was talking about. The majority of the talk was around embracing the Pasfika component of our team, playing up tempo rugby with counter-attacking flair accented by intelligent kicking, not the set piece focused, tighter style the springboks play. The only real comparison there was the minimal phase play, but his main point was that everyone but Ireland is doing that or moving in that direction now.
