The Wallabies are probably outperforming compared with the performances by their counterparts in the Ashes and the Women’s soccer World Cup, and keeping a lower profile.

Inspired by @RugbyReg's post about Eddie not being able to shut up - even with the losses, I've seen more news coverage about the Wallabies over the past months than there's been in years! Can only be great for eyes on the World Cup.

Regardless the result of this test match, the Ashes are retained and we literally won the Test Championship. We can even still win and therefore win an Ashes series in England which hasn't been done for a period longer than the Bledisloe...

Last nights start and the rain giving a bit of a breather certainly puts them in a position to get an outright victory. It was a comment on their most recent performance, that being the previous 2 days play which were terrible. But yes regardless of the outcome tonight they will be boarding the plane with all the silverware they set out to get their hands on. Similar with the soccer, it was merely a comment on the performance against Nigeria and I hope the girls kick Canada’s butt tonight.

I will rephrase - it was nowhere near our worst Bledisloe performance in a World Cup year.

I have a theory that Eddie believes a good NH team will beat a good SH team. Looking at the RWC draw we are going to need to get through the NH teams more than the SH ones, and it's really only NZ we have to worry about in the SH style as SAF play more of a NH style these days. Probably more simply, the game has evolved towards the NH style and we have been left behind. Selections like T Hooper at 7 are all designed to get us playing the NH style of rugby, probably with a bit of an Eddie/SH tweak, and it takes a bit of time to adapt to these new systems. If we run into NZ at the RWC we can revert back as those systems will still be in our DNA, but I reckon Eddie is taking a punt someone else will take care of them before that.

I wouldn't bet against you on this one, watching the Wallabies formation on the backs. It looked a lot like Ireland except you haven't had the practice at executing all the wrap around plays yet. Was quite a few times Gordon was in a position behind the wing on center to receive the 2nd pass instead of receiving first. Biggest issue if you want to play like this Kerevi is not your 12, he can't make that pass to save himself.

Alrighty, Petaia at 13 and the maturing of Nawaqanitawase.

Ikitau is great and I would still have him over Jordie for his left boot and tackling but it's great having another out and out attacker in the backline. With Jordie there and Nawaqanitawase stepping up, there's three players (with Kerevi) who can make the half break, get their shoulders through and effect the offload. Those three along with Koroibete can easily swallow up two defenders. Compare this to a backline with 13. Ikitau 14. Kellaway 15. Wright.

There's been a lot of talk about how Eddie's coaching has developed over the past 2 decades, but it looks to me like he's building into the RWC in exactly the same way as 2003:

2003, first Bledisloe: big loss at home (50-21).
2003, second Bledisloe: close loss in NZ (21-17).
2003, RWC semi-final: conquer NZ (22-10).

2023, first Bledisloe: big loss at home (38-7)
2023, second Bledisloe: close loss in NZ (23-20)
2023, RWC semi-final...?
