Wallabies 2020

Gordon's instincts are great, it's no fluke he's scoring tries. He follows the play well and has amazing timing on his support runs. An underrated asset.

When he doesn't start in an off side position. ;) But he has looked good in his last couple of games and is well in the mix for the Wallabies.

I agree with you. As To'omua went off the Rebels didn’t have a clue. Not taking anything away from the Reds D but the Rebels attack was rubbish in the 2nd half. No To'omua to take control.

Rebels certainly lacked direction without To'omua, but that was mostly down to the half backs and the pigs. Lomani must be the slowest No 9 in world rugby to clear the ball from a ruck. Tuttle simply had little idea where he fitted into the attacking structures, while during the period the Rebels were camped on the Reds line not even the Jaws of Death (Life?) could have prised the ball away from the one out forwards play. Sure, Deegan should have been more assertive, but that will come with more confidence of his spot in the team.

What to do with TK, Im a massive fan, but I think currently if Jordy moves to 13 next few weeks and is solid I would pick him at 13. TK needs a rocket or something.

My backline would be White JOC (James O'Connor) Koro To'omua Petiea Wright Maddocks (Banks form has been poor and no one else standing up with DHP injuried).

I would have Harrison/McDermett/Hodge on the bench.

Don't mind this, though I do think if White expects to play in gold he should be required to show some form in Super Au first. I'd also consider starting Hodge at 15 subject to Maddocks continuing form.

I really hope we don't have to see Hodge in gold this year. We have specialists available in all backline positions.

Well a specialist is perfect on the bench. More to the point I am presuming here that Hodge is given settled club time at 15. Agree that it is high time he settled on a primary slot, but He is looking very good.

TK always looks crap for the first few weeks, but he always has turned up by test time

I also think some players are just better in tests. Marika has always shown more for the Wallabies than for the Rebels, as an example.

Marika has been the saving grace of the Rebels multiple times this year already, he's exceptional everywhere. He scores miracle tries at will

Maybe i haven't been paying enough attention this year? certainly in previous years i thought he was pretty mediocre at Super Rugby level.

Just an example, anyway.

True, but he really hasn't found his feet, and he will be in the squad but I feel if Jordy plays well over the next few weeks at 13 I'd pick him. And this is from a Brumbies Fan..

Shiny new thing.

It seems that Jordy will stay at 14 unless Hunter is injured. I would be considering Petaia for the wing spot and have him in the squad as 13 cover.

If I was going to pick a Wallabies 23 and a 34 man squad right now it would be:

1. Slipper
2. Fainga'a
3. Tupou
4. Salakaia-Loto
5. Philip
6. Valetini
7. Hooper
8. Wilson
9. McDermott
10. JOC (James O'Connor)
11. Koroibete
12. To'omua
13. Petaia
14. Wright
15. Maddocks

16. Horton 17. Sio 18. Ala'alatoa 19. Simmons 20. Wright 21. Gordon 22. Harrison 23. Ramm

Squad:
Prop: Johnson-Holmes,
Hooker: Uelese
Lock: Blyth, Hosea
Backrow: Dempsey, Naisarani
Half: White
Fly half: Lolesio
Centre: Kuridrani
Back three: Haylett-Petty, Daugunu

I can't pick White on the back of zero rugby but I'd want him in the squad to have a look at.

The Rebels game plan rarely sees Marika get the ball on an edge with a bit of space in front of him and he has to go looking for work in the tight so we don’t see those big runs down the sideline he does in tests. Daugunu must have had three opportunities on the weekend where he got the ball in a bit of space and could use his speed, I don’t remember Marika having any.

Be surprised if Horton makes it (although not unhappy).

I think he is a great bolter option for the squad and goes close to the 23. He's been strong in every game since he started and the Waratahs lineout is substantially better than any of the others which should be considered reasonably important. BPA would probably be there otherwise but he's had a couple of shockers lineout-wise (albeit better than Mafi).
