We had a very different schedule though and our choice to only take two hookers and halfbacks was based around wanting separate XVs so we could run out a complete B team against Uruguay and not have key players involved in two short turnarounds.
This time around we have a minimum of 6 days between games and our two toughest pool games have 8 days between them (our first two games).
I expect we will take three hookers and halfbacks so it doesn't become essential to replace a player with a minor injury. We also don't have a player who can reasonably fill in as an emergency halfback whereas we had Matt Giteau last time around.
Dempsey and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)....wtf
Yeah, baffled over AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), but Dempsey? I can see his benefits, if he is fit, but the other options should keep their bags packed for when he breaks
What's the rule with injury replacements for specialist positions? If two of our hookers go bust, or Genia breaks down, are there thresholds for replacing them?
As in, only permanent replacements, or replacement players having to wait a minimum time before joining the squad?
Additonal players have been picked to be part of an extended training squad, and for the final test pre-RWC against Samoa on 7 September. They are Joe Powell, Tom Banks, Liam Wright, Luke Jones and Tatafu Polota-Nau.
If he wasn’t injured part of the season and had played as well as he could yea sure. But just don’t think he deserves it with so many other decent options
See that is the thing, I don't see the "other decent options" except for Samu, but he apparently took a dump in Cheik's bed and has been sent to the naughty step.
The other options are tradesmen and lack that dynamic game changing potential
McCaffrey has a better season than Dempsey and is definitely dynamic, I’d even argue in his limited capacity Valetini also had a better season and again is dynamic
I'll put a tenner on Uelese, with his 11 super rugby caps and three major injuries, missing the squad.
I'll take you on an avatar/signature bet?
I'll take it
Like a few others, I'm concerned about the lack of pace in the outside backs. Hopefully Petaia and Pocock are good to go, because I have a feeling they could be key inclusions.

I think Dempsey is a good selection if fit. He and Pocock need to have a run against Samoa for mine. So does Petaia.
Imagine if there is a few injuries and we are left with the lightning fast back three of AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), DHP and Hodge!
