Some interesting results this weekend.
Dewar Shield Melbourne 54 d Melbourne Uni 24, Harlequins 67 d Power House 12, Moorabbin 30 d Box Hill 19, Footscray 57 d Souths 7,
P2 Melbourne 71 d Melbourne Uni 0, Harlequins 36 d Power House 22, Box Hill 50 d Moorabbin 35, Footscray 36 d Souths 33,
P3 Harlequins 33 d Power House 7, Melbourne 100 d Melbourne Uni, Footscray 28 d Souths 0, Box Hill 26 d Moorabbin 12
P4 Melbourne 28 d Melbourne Uni 0
Colts Power House 31 d Harlequins B 12, Moorabbin 31 d Harlequins M 20
A Grade Geelong 36 d Maroondah 14, Kiwi Hawthorn 114 d Bendigo 0, Eltham 18 d Shepparton 12
B Grade Melton 13 d Melbourne 6, Cerberus 24 d Kiwi Hawthorn 12
Women Box Hill Quins 25 d Power House 12, Uni Panthers 34 d Melbourne 14, WD 50 d Moorabbin 5

Puts the last spot for finals going into the final round like this:
4th Moorabbin 52 points
5th Power House 48 points
6th Endeavour Hills 47 points

Round 18 23 July
Power House v FootscrayMelbourne Uni v MoorabbinEndeavour Hills v MelbourneBox Hill v HarlequinsBye v Sth Districts

  • If Moorabbin win they make the 4.
  • If PH win without a BP and Moorabbin get a losing BP then Moorabbin make the 4.
  • If PH win with a BP and Moorabbin lose with one then PH need to win by more than 60.
  • If PH win without a BP and Moorabbin lose without a BP, PH will make the 4 if they win by more than 60.
  • If Moorabbin and PH lose without BPs then Endeavour Hills need to win with a BP and by more than 20 to make the 4.
  • These points differences are just what the winning team need to do, it obviously changes if they losers have big losses.

So many possibilities, but can you see Moorabbin losing to Uni? Unless there is a miracle at Parkville this weekend I think the 4 is settled. GF will be Quins and Melbourne.

You have to ask what has happened to Box Hill, started like a house on fire but have only beaten the bottom 3 since the mid point of the season. Quins on Saturday doesn't look like 4 points in the bag either, unless Pom adopts a Cricket Australia strategy and "rotates" some players.

I think Uni lead for 60 minutes last time they played Moorabin.

Hopefully Moorabin roll into Parkville with exactly your mindset Pablo!

Has anyone else heard about the possibility that Box Hill could be stripped of some, if not all, points due to playing an ineligible/unregistered player for several games?

For what grade?

EDIT - what I mean is if the rumours are true, do they lose points for all 3 grades or just 1st grade?

My understanding is it is P1, but not sure if all grades would lose points, I doubt it though. I doubt the VRU will do anything though if it is true, it would probably be put down to admin error and a stern word will be delivered.

On a scale of rumour to fact a week out from the finals, where do you sit on the BH claim above?

It is a fact that it happened, but nothing will come of it. I do know that a colts side (Uni perhaps?) about a decade ago, missed out on playing in the GF because they had an ineligible player, so there is precedent of sorts, but I seriously doubt that any action against BH will occur this time around.

These types of things happened back when I was playing (mid 90's to mid 00's) and nothing major ever happened. More of a stern word, but no drastic action. The fact is, they would have to prove it was a deliberate action to play ineligible players, as opposed to accidental. Would also need to define the ineligibility, i.e. did they not pay their subs? That can also impact the severity.

A lot of talk around the grounds about BH and their possible points deduction means the semi finals aren't 100% locked in just year. However Power House leap frogged Moorabbin into 4th at the moment.

P2 Harlequins 25 d Box Hill 24, Power House 38 d Footscray 24, Moorabbin 39 d Melbourne Uni 36, Melbourne 85 d Endeavour Hills 5
P3 Box Hill 17 drew Harlequins 17, Footscray 26 d Power House 7, Melbourne Uni 24 d Moorabbin 22, Melbourne 21 d Endeavour Hills 17
P4 Melbourne 23 d Power House 19, Harlequins 28 d Melbourne Uni 0
Colts Harlequins M 28 d Melbourne Uni 22, Moorabbin 47 d Harlequins B 21

Lucky I don't bet, I support House so always happy to be a part of finals rugby...and to see Quins stumble at the chance of an undefeated season.

Uni will need to hold onto those young 20s stars you have, in Fereti, Rjay, Jordan and Pati you have the makings of a pack that could stick together and trouble sides on a regular basis.

When do the finals starts people? This weekend? Who will play in Premier Rugby?

Finals are this weekend. Harlequin vs. Melbourne Unicorns in Major Semi (winner straight through to GF). Loser plays winner of Minor Semi (Box Hill vs. Power House)

According to the team lists on RugbyNews, Rebels weren't in action however I saw something on instagram that suggested Pat Leafa might have played for Box Hill?

Tom Moloney (Harlequin) and Harley Fox (Power House) would be the only other ones likely to be involved I assume, but somebody in Melbourne may know more than me?
