How come we are at Quins and not Box Hill?

How come we are at Quins and not Box Hill?

Quin was always locked into hosting this weekends rugby. Was a pain as they did not allow us to warm up on the pitch on Saturday.

Not going to help them to be honest, ground 2 is destroyed at the moment, very soft under foot especially in the scrums.

It was always going to be destroyed, especially with a cricked pitch in the middle and crap drainage. There is that little bit of turf up near the cricket nets we used to use for a warm-up. but not a lot to use. Failing that there is some grass next to the carpark at the front.

A wealthy club like Melbourne could always warm up around the corner then bus in, after all what's the point of owning a bus if you don't use it.

Quins ground is prone to flooding due to its proximity to gardiners creek. It wouldn't be so bad id decent drainage was in place, but alas no. Number 2 is even worse because it doesn't have the slope like number 1. When they rejuvenated the pitches a few years ago I'm surprised they didn't upgrade the drainage. Just did the top dressing and seed.

Box Hill have a similar problem with flooding (gardiners creek restarting basin) but they put in good drainage about 12 years ago that keeps it in good nic. Plus, no cricket pitch to mess up the middle.

Common sense tells all clubs not to warm up on the fields, especially at this time of year. Soft grounds in Melbourne in August - what a surprise, never heard of that before! What are you going to say if the typical August gale force winds arrive on match day? Toughen up princess!

Box Hill is still the best place for the Grand Final due to the best spectator hill in the competition - but I wouldn't get high and mighty about the fields, I was there a couple of weeks ago and:

1. Your 2nd field is a disgrace
2. Your main field has such a hump on it through the middle so the ball runs off to the sidelines it isn't funny
3. It seems your council has never heard of a lawn mower and most of the time the field isn't marked properly
4. God help us if a big storm hits the day prior or on the day of the GF - man the lifeboats

Box Hill have won 3 Premierships - 2 in Extra Time and the other by a single point. All three of those Grand Finals played at home - would they have won those GF's without the home ground advantage? That question can never be answered.

Based on this years Home Ladder and Away Ladder it seems that Box Hill prefer to play away from home. Winning 7/8 games compared to 4/8 when at home.

Oh wow, never seen that before (/sarcasm)

Like I said it is a retarding basin, threrefore it is DESIGNED to do that. You can be on a a canoe one day, 2 days later it's back to normal with only a little rubbish on the field. Ground still in excellent condition. Quins, like Melbourne uni (that bloody merri creek soul) remains like a mud put for the entire season .

And plus the second quins ground has a fucking synthetic cricket pitch with concrete under the AstroTurf right in the fucking middle just like both Melbourne's grounds. Biggest fucking gee up I've ever seen.

We used to have the same issue at ALtona for PH's early games at the junior field. Gladly common sense has prevailed and they have a turf pitch there (which does have its flaws a`la Uni when it is wet).

I don't know how the council allows games to be played on these surfaces. It's surely a law suit waiting to happen.

For instance in 2013, Luke Jones was supposed to play for Melbourne Uni, however he was barred from playing due to the game being against Melbourne and their being a synthetic cricket pitch in the middle of the ground. Do the Rebels play for Melbourne in their home games now?
