Good effort PH, I like that they are rewarding local coaches.

Obviously it's great for Quins and Melbourne to bring in Superstars but we've got to develop local coaches in the same waythat we develop local players.

Any news on the BH/Boroondara front? No talk of preseason on either website.

No news, I doubt anything will happen now as they have left it too late. Although a mate said a lot of the P1 players from Boroondara have already committed to other clubs.

It's all about keeping it local. The more clubs that do it the better...Melbourne and Quins have the resources but our club culture is worth far more than any import!

Looks like it is, so now to choose a club a bit closer to home/work rather than travel as far as box hill a few times a week.

How's the merger being handled? I'm interested in details.

Are the clubs renaming? Are the juniour clubs joining? What happens to Boroondara's grounds?

Above all else I hope this brings another Colts team into the comp.

All that has been said

PRE-SEASON TRAINING - As you know we have been having discussions with Box Hill Rugby Club about Boroondara and Box Hill Rugby Clubs merging. The next step in this process is to commence pre-season training. All Redbacks or Kiwis are invited to attend training at the Box Hill ground on Tuesday 8 January commencing at 6:30pm. Box Hill's ground is located on the corner of Middleborough Road and Canterbury Road. Please come along and help strengthen local rugby, and commit to beating clubs like Melbounre, Harlequins, Power House etc. To help start the season, somem of last years coaches will attend to get started.

I don't understand this piece of text. Are they merging or not? They never official confirmed it, and yet it seems they are putting it into motion. Strange indeed.

On another note, head to Melb Uni or Footscray KevinO, Quins don't need you (as terrific of a club as they are FiveStarStu, I mean that sincerely). You'd be just another number.

I mean, fair game if you live in Glen Iris or something but if you're going to have to drive from the West anyway go somewhere where somebody passionate enough to be talking about rugby in a forum in January will be relished.

It is quite strange the way it has been said. But than the way they went about everything has not been that straight forward.

Footscray/Power House would be the best geographical options. Unless you want to play for Wyndham in Div 2?

Thinking powerhouse, car keys where in a team mates shoe bad at Footscray this year which not stolen and cost me a good bit if money. So holding a grudge on Footscray, plus it's actually a pain to get to.

Yeah, strange that they've never explicitly said "we are now merged" or "we are in the process of working out the kinks but we are certainly merging". It is something that their club community need to know about, the clubs are a solid 30 mins away from each other in peak hour (though admittedly neither clubs players generally live around the corner).

I suppose the nicest thing that can be said is that there's no blueprint for how to handle a potential merger, I'd imagine it would be difficult. Perhaps they're treading carefully till the VRU rubber stamp it.

That's because they are not merged as far as I know. It's just a standing invitation to the Boroondara players to attend pre-season training with Box Hill and if they join BH then they join, if they don't then the don't.

I agree, but I don't think they even considered asking there players who would stay at the club and play division 2 or would prefer a merger. Would a meeting with the playing ranks be one of the first things the club should have done once discussions began, maybe invited the President and coach of Box Hill to help answer some questions as well. It seems the board is just doing what they think the players want with out communicating and asking questions to everyone. Already know of two guys who are not going to play at all, one who does not mind the merge as he had moved house and Box Hill is closer.

Everyone seems to just be waiting for a decision to make up there mind, I know if I was first squad I would have found another club so I knew where my playing future was.

My mail suggests that they are still currently sorting out the merger but are both presuming it's going to happen and thus are preempting it by training as one.
