Interesting to see that they are getting scores in the 80s, I thought we have a mercy rule in schools rugby.

Not in 1sts.

I think this is becoming very much like Eddies in Canberra, Skevs are playing excellent rugby but it's not benefiting their own players or the people that play them.

Sure, being 10 points better than your opposition is fine but anything more than that just doesn't teach you anything.

After this round we'll learn well and truly how clubs are travelling.

I think BH and EH are probably going to be fighting for the spoon with Uni not far behind them.

Quins look the goods with depth aplenty but they're not far ahead of Melb and Rams. PH as usual are dark horses travelling well but sitting around 4-5 on the ladder (though they are literally 2nd they've had a BYE and only mid-tier opposition).

Perfect tipping round for me! Though I'll admit, this can be a pretty predictable league.
Powerhouse scored very late to give you the correct results. All the games against Southern were close, the 3rds did notch up a massive win against the Navy boys though.

South are getting some prickly points margins in 4ths.

What that says to me is that they could easily be playing 3rd grade and it may be time for the Navy boys play 2b in 2014.

They might want to change there style of play, they don't kick ever. It's a slab anytime someone kicks the ball, they will run the ball off there own line. Think they would finish mid to lower in 3rd grade if they did go up. Navy Boys are just to unpredictable, depends on what ships are docked to how good there team is each week.

Maybe the plan is to add kicking in the 2nd half of the season? Some clubs run things like this and it basically makes you really really good at what you want to be good at and from there you make your game more rounded.

If South's 4s they would get competitive scores in 3rd grade (and my friends who play 4ths for various clubs say they would) even if they barely win a game logically they should be playing there and not in 4ths.

The Hills clubs are busting a gut to fill 2s and 3s sides each week and often getting whooped, surely Souths must do the same?

Let's remember as well that you played them away and they're a very different beast at home, as any lower grade team of a smaller club is.

From what i have been told they don't add kicking ever, even in the Grade final last season they did not kick. It'only apply's to this team.

Think Melbourne Chargers has already pulled out of Premier 4, heard they forfeited to Moorabbin

Odd, things like this separate Vic rugby from stepping up.

Fair enough to have a minimal kicking policy, and I certainly don't like it as an attacking weapon, but it lets teams get lazy if you don't use it out of your 22. If you never kick you allow up to 2-3 more players in the defensive line (obviously the fb is always back just in case) which makes it fucking hard to run it out of the 22.

Don't kick too much, kick only when it's right. That's got to be any seniour team's creed. Deciding when it's "right" is the hard part.

4th grade is a difficult thing to make happen. The reality is many clubs have the numbers but the guys don't want to drive 6 hours for a game, fair enough because it's a social grade. But really, these teams should combine with "3rd division" based off standard.

DEWAR SHIELD
Power House and Harlequin remain the only undefeated teams in the Dewar Shield. Both sit on 18 points at the conclusion of round 4, having three wins and a bye.
Power House defeated Southern Districts in a close game on Saturday afternoon, narrowly taking the win 32-29. Southern District got the fast start, scoring two tries early in the first half, only to be pegged back and hold a tight 10-12 lead at half time.
Power House were within four points with only moments left in the match, with Makesi Stowers and replacement Hugh Parker teaming up for a late try, giving the home team a spectacular win.
The match between Power House and Southern Districts was the match of the round, and highlights of the game will be broadcast on “Rugby Time”, Friday at 8.30pm on Channel 31.
Melbourne University played at home against Melbourne over the weekend, going down to the visitors 28-51. Andrew Stevenson stood out for Melbourne scoring three tries, and was named best on ground by Melbourne University officials. Karl Balemi and Killian O’Niell also featured in the voting for Melbourne.
James Nettleton was best on ground for Melbourne University, with two conversions and a penalty goal.
Endeavour Hills hosted last year’s Dewar Shield winners Moorabbin, with last year’s Premiers recording a 14-50 win. Moorabbin were comprehensive in their victory, scoring seven tries to Endeavour’s two, along with converting on six occasions.
Six individual players crossed the line for Moorabbin, with Turi Uini scoring twice for the visitors. David Savea and Wayne Vitale were the try scorers for Endeavour Hills.
Footscray travelled east to Box Hill, where they recorded their first win of the season, beating the home side 12-55.
Footscray had seven try scores, with Tim Diack crossing the line three times. Stanley Ili was accurate in front of goal for the visitors, converting on four occasions, as well as scoring a try.
James Foster was voted as the strongest performer for Box Hill.
SECOND DIVISION
Northern took a clean sweep in the Second Division, beating Eltham 35-17 in A grade, and 26-7 in B grade.
Geelong were clinical against Monash University in their A grade match, beating the visitors 115-7. Geelong put together a brilliant 80 minute display leading to their 108 point victory. Ten individual players crossed the line for Geelong, contributing to their 19 try total. Daniel Muasika was best on ground for Geelong, while Stephen Hyde was the sole try scorer for Monash.
Geelong had a much closer result in their B grade match however, narrowly beating Maroondah 18-17 in a tight contest.
Melton also had a close call against Melbourne, taking the match by a single try, 31-26. Melton had five tries from five individual players, while Daniel Owen and Tim Westmacott both crossed the line twice each for Melbourne.
REGIONAL
Shepparton had another big win in Round 4, beating Warrnambool 47-11 at home. The Bulls had six individual try scorers, and Lee-Roy Huthmann-Grace displayed his accuracy in front of goal, converting six out of seven times.
Ballarat and Border Army were involved in a close battle, with Ballarat just taking the win at home, 27-26. Puckapunyal were home to Bendigo, however they went down 7-22 to the Miners.
IN FOCUS – Saofaiga Saemo and the Australian Women’s 7s
The VRU would like to congratulate the Australian Women’s 7s and Power House’s very own Saofaiga Saemo for making the Cup Final in the London Women’s Sevens Invitational over the weekend. The Women’s team comfortably beat the USA in the semi-final 28-7, however struggled against England in the Final, going down 36-7 on England’s home turf.
The VRU is incredibly proud of Saemo and her achievements in Women’s rugby on a National level, making the team after she was invited to train with them last November.
Women’s coach Chris Lane praised Saemo for her hard work prior to the competition, along with commending her for making the most of the opportunities that have been presented to her.
