^^^ There seems to be a bit of a gap between nearly 1 million viewers and about 5 million viewers (estimated by @USARugger).

I know nothing about the USA broadcasting environment, but with a population > 300 million, I'd think that a show being seen by <10 million in prime time would be seen as a bit of a disappointment for a National FTA Network.

What is the benchmark viewership figure for a FTA network that determines whether a show is seen as a flop or not?

It's all a bit of black magic because of how statistically unreliable Nielsen Ratings are but by the transitive property of "I think I still remember how to do math"..

The Breeder's cup drew a viewing audience of ~2.5mil and ended up with a 0.4 rating.

USA v. All Blacks scored a 0.7 - so through some extremely rough math and a lot of assumptions/estimations that would put it at around the 5 million viewer mark. I'll be interested to see what actual numbers NBC comes out with.

Reminds me of this post from the archives: http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/infographic-where-the-money-is-globally-in-rugby/

Yeah good call, its Seems hard to find details. The numbers are consistent with high level EPL games... But that's apples and oranges with the time zones.

This article gives some better comparisons, but it's a pretty rubbish source.

As expected AB are returning to Soldier Field on November 5 - to play Ireland. Maori AB to play USA at Toyota Park November 4. Article refers to "The Rugby Weekend" so I'm guessing the smaller venue (30K) is also in or at least close to Chicago?

Yeah its in the Chicago Suburbs, its an MLS stadium. Whereas Solidier Field is right next to the CBD. A friend who lives in Chicago said its about a half hour drive from the city centre.
