I decided to put up a poll after a bit of discussion coming out of the thread 'a bit of mungo bashing' in the everything else forum. Basically I want to know if league was the first game that you followed or if you were raised straight with union. Please note I've done a separate bit if you were raised outside of australia, I know this doesn't cover all factors like parents disposition or country of origin but it should give us a rough idea. Thanks everyone.

"Overseas Raised: League - really? what the fuck?" I'd be interested to hear from someone that falls into this category.

I was actually Aussie Rules - League then Union. Had a lot to do with the junior programs on offer. Auskick especially was fantastic. First exposure to Rugby came at age 11 when G. Gregan came to my school and I won a scarf from him! Sadly, I never had any other exposure with Pro-Rugby types until year 9 at St Edmunds with the Brumbies gym/training programmes.

Rugby is just far too top heavy. Love it to bits, but it really could be a lot better!

Yeah, I thought there might have been a few AFL first people, but I'm not seeing that as applicable to the discussion we were previously having so I left it out. Either way, just answer in relation to which of the 2 rugby codes you followed first (not necessarily exposed to but independently followed). Thanks

Mines a funny one.

Devoid of all sporting interest for my teens, became interested in Rugby before anything else, at 20. Everything else has followed.

100% Victorian too.

Gav if you were a car you would be one that doesn't start for 20 years and then one day becomes a tardis...

As in the other thread I started playing League but foldly remember watching many a test and Templeton Cup game with my father growing up. So I would like to nominate myself for two categories both League- saw the light and to a lesser degree rugby - born blessed.

Don't ask me how it happened either. Just remember in 2006, that I started an interest in the Wallabies, followed by Super Rugby etc...

I agree Rugger I'm probably more in the "Hybrid" or "Duel" code raised category in addition I played soccer myself for 8yrs before Rugby as it was the only football code I could play at the younger age.

Union for me from juniors although many guys back then played Union Saturday and League Sunday.

Actually played juniors with 2 guys that ended up playing with the Reds-McLinden and Coutts. Pity thats the only highlight of my limited career.

We appear to have had very similar sporting orientations growing up. Played Soccer in addition to League for 6 years. Saturdays were very busy in my family.

I was raised as a soccer kid from 6, mother was a nurse and I was banned from contact sport due to the place she worked at treating spinal injuries (and some bad footy ones)

Must say I was raised both league and union on the Telly though. Probably followed both, but being a north Sydney league supporter when my team was dumped from the comp, I pretty much took that as a message that league didn't give a shit about me and became all about rugby from then.

Born and raised till teens in South Sydney area, played league at school and on weekends. Moved to Perth later in life, couldn't get into Aussie Rules, no league team then along comes the Western Force. Haven't looked back since. I guess I am one of those new supporters the ARU was hoping to pick up by establishing a team in Perth.

Always only known union until I started reading about league. Don't think we have league here in SA.

Union as well... League only exists in the south of France and is not that popular.
I started watching NRL in Sydney as it was shown in most of the pubs.
