I heard a number of injured players were sent home from the Narrabeen camp after they were assessed by medical staff on arrival. Stirzacker was one of them.

For folks who don't know about Willie: he is a giant of a lad who plays in the second row. Some folks were deriding the cheerful young man in the schools threads last year and when I first saw him he was indeed a bit of a lumberer. But either I got used to him or he improved, as his work rate seemed to pick up during the NSW school trials. He was always powerful in contact.

Now he's at an outfit where an oversized young player can get trimmed down to the right weight and have access to all the other good things that Uni can provide. Can't wait to see him play again and see how he has progressed, in all ways.

Ditto for Semisi Talakai who is at the same joint.

Good to hear, in a way, that Stirzacker was one of the injured players. He must have got a knock playing for the Runners at Knox last weekend. I say "Good" because it indicates that he was on the list.

Does anybody know the injury (or good health) status of fullback Jake Woodhouse? He's in the Tahs Pro Academy, had a blinder for the JWs v. Fiji A at St. Marys and hasn't been heard of since, least of all on the U/20s list.

Bradley do you know the names of any others who didn't pass the physical?

Ah - Woodhouse was injured and maybe he was injured for a while. It may be why the Junior Tahs started him in only one game; not that they profess to play their best possible side all the time, a practice I commend in the interest giving more lads a go.

It will be interesting as to whether he can get the Manly fullback spot because he was better than BJ Hartman IMO in his one start plus cameos for the Tahs in the trials and for the Juniors before he "disappeared". If he can do that and gets healthy soon he should get into the Oz U/20 squad and there will be further interest in who of S. Morahan or he will be the starting fullback, though both can play on the wing.

I remembered Cummins limping off at Forshaw the weekend before last, which was a pity, but he was at longer odds to make the team with Peterson and Jones favoured to form the second row. I expect there to be a big improvement in his strength and conditioning during the next 12 months and that he will emerge as a solid Oz U/20 candidate.

Yeah I saw that in the programme on Saturday. Woodhouse had a blinder in that game against Fiji for the Jr. Tahs yet Hartman didn't really shine for them though he got more chances.

BJ played well enough in the Ones on Saturday without setting the world on fire. Didn't see the Twos because the Colts Ones played in the curtain raiser. Was good to see Hingano playing now his school days are over. Watch this space on Mali.

The camp just finished. Details are scratchy. Obviously many players were culled after the first camp - two of them are Stirzacker and Nicky Price. Those Jnr Tahs who survived from the first camp and attended this camp were Woodhouse, Peterson, Bredenhann, Saifoloi, Seage, Sio, Apo and Volavola.

Kimami Sitauti, Maile Hingano and Luke Jones were also there.

Team to be announced in the week beginning 2 May 2011.

will seage still play colts if he makes 20s? all others are grade i think.. he played sg ball 18s at parra and that standed is as high as first grade in club rugby.. he would be having a field day in colts.. not sure on his kicking game though

I read on the other thread that Nick Phipps played three years in colts. And as Bruce mentioned it didn't do him any harm

No, the lesson from league is to make use of the existing club structure. The investment required would be to supply each sydney and brisbane premiership club with a good quality gym, leaving out of course those who already had their own. Then you would need to employ a number of strength and conditioning coaches and skills coaches who would service those clubs that again didn't already have their own. With the focus on developing young players a squad of perhaps 25 at each club would be selected to undergo intensive 11-month-a-year training.

The gym infrastructure would obviously be available for the rest of the club to use as well.

This is the path to correcting the current imbalance in physical conditioning between clubs while at the same time lifting the standard and intensity of club rugby. The problem with the arc was that its model was arse-up. Taking players away from their home locations and paying them as half-baked professionals was a far too expensive model and it really did not address the reality that player development is a year round process. Young players don't need money; they need guidance and opportunity.

Specialist skills under review next week. Parra hooker Trent Hoscher called in for scrum school, along with other tight five contenders. Full day session at Vic Barracks.
