Highlights of the Brumbies Academy/Rebels Academy game yesterday. Some very good tries scored in the game and encouraging to see the Brumbies favourite move (the maul ha ha!) still going strong. Actually, the Brumbies U19s maul last year was practically unstoppable.

Dan Hooper I think is the coach and is making a name for himself at these levels.

Australia U20s confirm preliminary squad for Rugby Championships U20s

Any views on strongest team from that squad? Bit surprised to not see Hooper, Finau, Toufan make it from the prelim squad.

From the limited sample size I have seen, would have thought something like:

1. Barrett
2. Edwards
3. Alatini
4. McPherson
5. Cordukes
6. Di Staso
7. Liddy
8. Harley
9. Nelson
10. Gray
11. Tipene-Grace
12. McCloud
13. Goldsborogh
14. Leahy
15. Staniforth

Bloomfield is strong chance to start. He was pretty good last year when thrown in after the De Luttis injury. Wouldn't be surprised to see them use Alatini off the bench like the Brumbies U19s did to great effect.

Durbridge is other I could see start. Built like a tank for someone so young and gave a pretty good showing of himself in the trials for the Waratahs. Hard to judge how the guys straight from school will go as they have only just started to play senior players and we haven't seen them against the 19s either although I didn't think it was the best standard last U19s tournament and the U18s games were very good.

I think we'll build nicely on last years efforts

1. Barrett
2. Edwards
3. Bloomfield
4. McPherson
5. McCrea
6. Ekanayake
7. Durbridge
8. Harley
9. Nelson
10. Fowler
11. Leahy
12. Fakafanua
13. Goldsborogh
14. Saunders
15. Staniforth

Also surprised not to see Hooper, possible injury? Has he been playing any John Dent? Same with Talataina.

I'd like to see McLaughlin-Phillips released for U20s, if only to excite @The Ghost of Raelene beyond help

Been beyond help for a long time.

Talataina might get me more amped than HMP.

I do think HMP would be a game changer at this level. When a guy looks as competent as he does already at Super Rugby and you put him in a game where he gets the extra second of time. Think it was looking very likely when the Reds seemed to be cruising but if they slide I wonder if he's held onto even though starting for the 20s could be good for him.
