I’m trying not to undermine the u20s performance against NZ but the reality is this is probably the worst NZ u20s team of all time.

It wasn’t good viewing and after watching the flogging against the Boks it is a big wake-up call for the direction of rugby in Australia.
The Kiwis u20s fielded an average team too and the Aussies were fortunate with the red card and a couple of yellows in their favour. Big difference without the maturity of Bowen and / or Gordon leading the team. Aimless kicking and the missed tackles were horrendous. Lucky they got away with that one. Any more games left to play over there?

I reckon they can beat Wales. They should have beaten England.

Get the set piece right and our Backs plenty of ball and I’m confident they can finish it off really well.

Surely this is a successful tournament for Nathen Grey considering the circumstances??? - beat the kiwis (Australia barometer for benchmarking) and now playing for top spot in the consolation bracket when only the top 4 advance in a 12 team tourney…

True. I'm in the camp of not a big fan of Grey as a coach but I think they have done their best as cheesy as that sounds. It's a highwire tournament with the nature of a top 4.

Wish they had of got NZ in the 2nd game in Wellington and it would have been a sweep against them.

NZ got beaten by France and RSA got beaten by Ireland and Italy.

I suspect most people aren’t a fan of Nathen Grey but the kiwis being a benchmark for us makes me wonder where abouts he is in his journey on becoming a HC… I can see him running it back aus u20 in 2024 because of this result

In strictly results terms it'll probably be a pass to minor success if we beat Wales. I thought we were tactically poor in our pool games though, and that looked like coaching was an issue.

There is definitely an argument that injuries and luck played a role, but even then it sounds like Grey might bear some responsibility for not having Lynagh there, a player who could've made a world of difference in the conditions in some of those games.

If we end up 5th I honestly think that is a low pass mark. Semi's would have been the goal because from there who knows what happens.

I just hope we can see the Franchises U20s play each other in a round robin from next year and select teams following that in conjunction with their Club play and any Super Rugby appearances.

Would have been interesting to see what Jorgenson would have brought to the team. Different Fullback to Gordon and if De Luttis was fit for the English match who knows. He and Barrett are great prospects.
