Half Time:
Aust U20 - 14
Japan U23 - 19

Full Time:
Aust U20 - 54
Japan U22 - 26

Japan excellent in the first half with 3 easy maul tries. Junior Wallabies excellent in the second half and Japan’s handling and defence fell apart completely.

Of the starters, Mangelsdorf went very well in the forwards, supported by skipper Doyle in the first half, and Grover, Wilcox and Watters were excellent in the backs.

Second half saw Martens, Langi and Morrison all excellent off the bench, with Langi & Watters best on field.

I note that Grover 13, Wilcox 15 and Watters 11 all played a full game. With the score blowing out I thought selectors would’ve look to the bench. Wasn’t that the idea of the game ?

Watters the big 11?

He’s some prospect the way he played at that size.
Yes, the 11. He was excellent for the full 80. If the Jnr Wallabies can land on a strong front row (mixed bag all round), find a way to improve their maul defence (found out badly) and a 12 that can really bend the line, they'll be a good team. Stacked for talent in back 5 forwards and outside backs.

Great second half from the Junior Wallabies. With the exception of the maul defence in the first half I thought the forwards in the first half were excellent - second rowers in particular both put in a big shift in contact. Second half back row against a battered pack were phenomenal. Nice headaches for the coaches to have at the selection table. Martens was really good, best I’ve ever seen Eli Langi play, and Cooper Watters is a real talent on the wing.

Have to think they will be hoping for Pakeho to be available at 12. Grover has made himself a must select through SR19s and these games.

Fakafunua is a good player but I think lands on the bench as cover for basically the entire backline.
