I organised the poll last year and will do it again (unless Gagger, Scarf or Moses have other plans). Criteria is must have played a minimum of 3 tests in the position nominated (e.g. You can't nominate George Gregan at halfback as he hasn't played test rugby this year).

Keep it to inside backs on this thread please. Nominations to close on Saturday December 5 at 10pm AEDT.

9 FdP
10 Carter
12 Giteau. Yeah, I know he has been often crap, but that's at 10, and I reckon if you played him more at 12 as we have seen recently he would be the one. If not allowed 'cos he's played 10 mainly, then Roberts or Nonu

9. Will Genia (Aus) finished the year brilliantly
10. Dan Carter (NZ)
12. Ma'a Nonu (NZ) (if Gits wore 12 he would be it)

I'll throw in a nomination at 9 for Tomás O'Leary. Was superb for Ireland all year, selected for the Lions and catastrophically unlucky. Would almost certainly have been on the test team there, as he roundly outplayed Mike Philips in Cardiff (as did Stringer, but still...).

Blue

Andrew Slack (58)
Fourie du Preez (country mile). Genia only came into play later in the season.
Carter
Roberts

9. Mike Phillips
12. Yannick Jauzion - still a very classy operator.

Phillips and FdP went hammer and tongs during the Lions series and showed us they were far and away the best 9s in the game.

Which is why I nominated O'Leary, because he consistently walloped Philips at club and international level all season.

Thomo it is ok for the rest of us to praise players who arent from Ireland even if you can't manage it.

Cutter, where did I say Philips was bad or shouldn't have been nominated?

Nowhere.

Rather, the contrary; Philips if I didn't demur from your assessment of the Lions but instead adopted it as a reason why O'Leary deserves to be nominated if he could deal with Philips, then I'm agreeing Philips is good. I just think O'Leary is as good, possibly better.

If you go looking for offence, you'll inevitably find it, but it strikes me as a journey not worth the time. Being worth a nomination is not a zero-sum game.

Du Preez and Carter choose themselves. I cant think of anyone that realistically challenges them. The two easiest selections in the whole 15.

12 is tough. Nonu? Roberts was average everywhere except for the Lions. What Frogs were there? mermoz, was he their 12? I didnt see enough Froggy rugby to know if he was any good, but I hear good things (or we could just pick Basteraud for beating himself up!)
Anyway, Im going to say Nonu

10. Dan Carter (NZ) (morne was close too it think)
12. Ma'a Nonu (NZ)

From now on keep the nominations to players not yet nominated with the shirt they play test rugby in and country in brackets. e.g. 10 Gitteau (Oz)
