TT R5 Hurricanes v Reds Friday 5:05PM

Some outline stats here https://www.rugby.com.au/match-centre/358/2021/358054?tab=Season-Stats

Reds unlikely to be willing to exit limply, but can they step up to a game in NZ against the Hurricanes?

Those stats are a bit misleading. The Hurricanes got to rack those stats up against the Rebels and Waratahs. Reds had to do it against the best NZ sides.

I think the Reds should be able to win this one. Hurricanes definitely the least impressive of the NZ sides.

The way the TT tournament has been run makes it hard to compare much at all, other than the gap in the comps.

If you had the Reds or Brumbies winning 4 from 4 against Aussie teams then maybe 2 from 5 against the Kiwis they would be in the top few of the table when you consider the Kiwis would lose some against their own. But the way it stands, the best either can finish is 6th.

Maybe the points from the respective comps should carry over into TT? Or the points from one half of the H&A season?

That way all teams have accrued points against their countrymen.

If you do the latter you may as well just do a regular round robin TT IMO. If you do a full combined table the kiwis with throw their dummies out the pram.

So you're saying that all the Aus teams, that now lose every week to NZ teams, should have the old points they accumulated playing only against other loser Aus teams..... should now be counted and used against the NZ sides?

Hah, case in point.

I actually said just do a full round robin if you are gunna go down a TT route.

I would too, competitions need integrity. Though it feels like playing NSW and the Rebels twice has been a major disservice to WA, ACT, and Qld in the long run. Should have just treated them as trials. Would be interesting to look at an averaged table though (i.e. averaging the h+a matches in each domestic comp).

Back to the match:

Reds should be good enough to notch a W, and they should be working on controlling the tempo of the match. That second half brainshart against Waikato was as disturbing as the two-half Canterbury masterclass. Hard to comment on ins and outs as I missed the Auckland match.

No they already done it on Breakdown to show how top Aus teams would of still been in with chance. That was taking one round of Super Au and SuperAO thrown in.

Can't yo all read the f&*king title to this thread. Go create a thread titled 'TT comp effecting Aussi sides', or whatever.
Where oh where is the moderator.
Whether the Reds win on Hurricane home turf depends on the latter having a good game day or bad game day. They are a volatile bunch.

What's the deal with All Black required rest this year? Surely Jordie Barret is due for a rest.

From my understanding it is not compulsary to have a rest. But by same token, Canes have nothing to win this week so should probably just give Jordie a breather.

I assume that Henry will be unavailable this week after being knocked out against the Blues. JOC (James O'Connor) back to 10, Stewart to 12, Paisami 13?

Team announcement this afternoon would imagine.

JOC (James O'Connor) and Fraser likely to back in the team?

No Vunivalu with both Sorovi and Thomas on the bench a bit of a surprise.

I didn't expect to see Vunivalu after he hobbled off but certainly wasn't expecting us to go the Rebels route of naming an extra halfback. I guess there is also a chance one of them will be seen as a back up 10 option, given Stewart and O'Connor aren't there.

2 halfbacks on the bench.

Kalani Thomas might be in for a position swap? I think I saw him lineup as fullback for south’s colts last year

Seems to depend on who you are and/ or play for: article accompanying Clan team naming says ASmith missed last week due to mandatory rest; Razor on Saturday said he had no option but to rest Mo'unga & Whitelock; but AL-B hasn't had a rest since Tribe's last bye, six games I think.
