TRC2021 - Wallabies v Boks @ Suncorp 18/09

The return fixture. What happens here? Who gets picked or dropped? Will anything significant change due to the near-parity of the contest?

Referee: Matthew Carley (RFU)
Assistant Referee 1: Luke Pearce (RFU)
Assistant Referee 2: Graham Cooper (RA)
TMO: Brett Cronan (RA)

Personally think the Wallabies need to tighten up on the discipline as their main point - if we defend well in midfield we showed the Boks don't do much but kick. Let them into your corner with lineout ball tho, and it is deadly. On attack we need to be more accurate at ruck time, or we risk giving away penalties for flopping onto the ball.

Boks won't change much - maybe tweak a jersey on the bench, but otherwise they'll be hungry to dominate.

Is Kolbe still injured? Even with Boks' lack of enthusiasm for backline attack, he's good for at least one try.

Can we please leave Kellaway where he is, he's going very well there.
I think we are going to have to persist with Banks at fullback in the interim because he's the best of a limited bunch (of those who have experience)

This is until he has an absolute shocker (repeated mistakes not just one/ two major ones) and his position is completely untenable.

I'd actually like to see Banks redeem himself by slicing holes through a lumbering Bok forward pack, having stepped their onrushing wingers.

We likely only have to get through this game and then the 2 against the Argies before Beale gets the call up for the EOYT. Or JOC (James O'Connor) my assert himself by then.

EDIT: might be a game v Japan in between.

He hasn't played fullback in Super Rugby for years and has also been injured for about 3 months - he's not going to be selected at fullback for the RC.

Bench this week then 2 games v the Argies, it’s not impossible. Personally I prefer him in closer but it’s a problem that needs fixing and if QC (Quade Cooper) hangs around where else does he slot in? 13 maybe, neither Ikitau or PaisamI have locked that down yet.

He is, but he has the makings of a quality fullback too. The problem is the bloke up the back isn’t going so well.
Maybe test him at the level below and not against the World Champions who are renowned for their high ball pressure on the best fullbacks

I would like to see Wilson back at #8 for this game. Not overly impressed with Valetini and Swinton. Maybe give Samu a shot at starting or bring in Naisarani. Fainga'a should also be dropped for his ridiculous tackling technique

Bit harsh on Valetini and Swinton, I feel both are doing a lot of work. I give them both pass marks. Both are physical and do their job and will get better.

Yeh Fainga'a surely played himself out of Test rugby by now.

I thought Valetini looked OK. Swinton is great but doesn't go much past half time and is a penalty risk. Samu was 10/10.

I'd like to see Wilson back as well, just not sure how the back row ends up looking.

We won the game- the coaches aren't going to make changes in areas we weren't weak such as the backrow so I can't see Wilson getting a run this weekend.

I think the trick with Fainga'a and Swinton is to replace them as soon as they show the first sign of fatigue (essentially the first time they don't use arms in a tackle).

Agreed. I'd still start Samu.

I thought that was Valetini’s best game in gold.

Swinton might be a under some pressure, but he has done some good stuff too.

I feel it is likely Wilson will have to wait a bit longer for another crack.

We need Swinton for his line out work, and Valetini for his post contact metre Perfect Pete is awesome for a bench cameo. I think Swain comes in on the bench if not injured.. Reserve THP will be interesting, will it be Slipper/Holmes/Robertson.

Or is Tupou playing 80..
