Yes and no. There were certainly aspects of it that we could be 'remotely happy' with. The lineout for one.

The turning point was when Tupou got sent to the bin. Regardless of whether it was justifiable or not, managing a 7 man forward pack at that stage of the game was disastrous, and we were well in the game at that point.

I'd agree that describing any part of our game as world class is a bit of a stretch, but to say that there were a lot of good signs isn't. There were also a lot of bad signs.

Banks is probably the closest player we have to a 'strike' winger who can kick and catch. Maddocks scores tries too, i suppose.

I don't think To'omua was to blame there. I think he made the previous tackle.

The constant Hooper criticism gets me, could I suggest if he didn't play for the Tahs some of his biggest critics may not have as much to say.
That Hooper has been a more consistent performer than any other Wallaby over the past three years would be clear to any remotely objective observer.
As to the decision to take the scrum, had we scored a try and gone into half time with a lead it would have been a master-stroke. These are the calls you have to make as a captain, and I will never attack anyone for going for the big call, in rugby or business. However, I obviously know all the experienced wallaby captains on these forums would have made the right call!

I think we should have taken the gift three points there. Our scrum wasn't looking stable enough to ensure it was going to be an outstanding attacking platform. That said, it wasn't under so much pressure that Naisarani's error at the back of the scrum was inevitable.

That aside, Hooper was one of our best players as he generally is. We are going to need a more active defensive line if we expect any of our players to compete harder at the breakdown. We were too passive on Saturday night.

I’ve whinged about this sort of shit countless times when the ABs infringe or appear to infringe to stop a try. They always get away with it. Time we did the same.

If you watch the replay, I think To'omua would have tackle Jantjies if he'd been able to from the offside position because he knew there was no other defender. To'omua sees him potentially darting between To'omua and the ruck but then Jantjies steps around him and goes on the outside and To'omua can't react in time because he's facing the wrong direction.

It's 100% DHP's fault.

Thanks for that vid. Quite insightful. I’ve said before (admittedly, often tongue in cheek) as someone who spent a bit of time out wide there’s a bit more going on than is often given credit for.
