I was one one them and happy to admit it has worked out well. I think given the happenings of the past, people were still fair to be sceptical when the deal was done.
Now he looks committed to Rugby I am happy to view it as an investment in the future. If the Wallabies keep on the upward trend they seem to be on, I think the brand will be re energized.

Tough call to make.
the great Rex Mossop was playing First Grade Rugby for Manly (debuted at 15 years of age) and went over to league in England and was an instant hit. Brian Bevan went from Rugby to league in england and scored 3 million tries. Ray Price was an instant in the mungoes when he went across. Of course this is the other way to your suggestion, certainly in recent memory Izzy would be right up there as one of the best league converts.........let's face it, he offers slightly more than Nathan Blacklock ever did!

I think it is probably the most impressive conversion in recent times.
Primarily,because he did not come directly from League,his physical preparation was way behind his peers.
I have heard a thousand stories about how weak he was physically,when he came from AFL.Squats in particular,showed the massive difference in preparations between the codes.
You would expect he will be breaking more tackles as his strength continues to improve.

To be fair to them, they had a point if he didn't re-sign and left after 1 year. I don't think anyone ever doubted the talent. It was more about how serious he was about rugby. Looks like he's fairly serious about it now.

If he had only stayed for the year, he would have paid for his salary several times over, maybe more, in extra publicity for the code. Let alone scoring, and making, the tries he did.
Sorry, I disagree. Some of the comments were just pathetic, showing absolutely no appreciation of the market that the ARU is struggling to survive in. And, I might add, showing no understanding of the value of free publicity. In Izzy's case, some of the coverage he brought with him just cannot be purchased.
He should have been welcomed by all rugby supporters, with no reservations at all. There are a few bitter, twisted, armchair critics in the ranks, unfortunately, who would not recognise good news if it was wrapped in gold paper and delivered to their front doors.
I hate to think what the season would have looked like without Folau. Dismal, that's the word that springs to mind.

How is that different to QC (Quade Cooper) signing one year deals,prefaced by statements that he wants to play with his bro',or that he wants the challenge of the other code?
Either they are value for the term they agree to,or they are not.what they do beyond the contract under negotiation is irrelevant.

It was perfectly fair for people to be sceptical under the circumstances..........
There had been many failed league converts in recent years who were propelled into test teams on nothing but reputation, plus his salary was extreme at a time when ARU's finances are tight and test players aren't receiving top ups.........
The publicity only pays off if he's successful, which thankfully he has been......... very much so............
If he had returned to the NRL after one year it wouldn't have been worth it.........

It's not quite that simple..
If his wage is $500'000 a year and even if his market appeal is several times his wage $3-4million as you suggested, it doesn't mean that it has paid for his wage unless that marketing directly correlates to increased revenue and profits at the respective union. Which judging by the ratings and crowds of the RC hasn't been quite the case yet, maybe in the longer term that might eventuate.
My issue, and the same for many other on this forum was that he was given a ARU top-up prior to playing a game at a time when they ARU are struggling financially and losing players overseas.
People have the right to question a convert signing, Australian rugby fans have invested a lot of emotional support through the years and been burnt numerous times.

He is impresive, that welsh try! there was nothing on but he crashes through 3 players taking them over the line to score without running onto the ball at pace... He is a handful for any defender, a big asset for the Wallabies... Greet first Wallabies season!!! well done Folau, enjoy some time off now...
Surely playing every possible game for the Wallabies, being an absolute stand out and equalling the Wallaby try scoring record for a season is the best way for him to promote the game.
People are kidding themselves to suggest he'd make a bigger impact on promoting the game by fronting up for a game of club rugby.

I have never expected him to play much, if any, club footy.
Simply being associated with a club is a very powerful marketing tool for that club, and is a recruit magnet for the junior village clubs, especially if that club happens to be in a target demographic/geographic area. Is Camperdown?
Turn up to a saturday game where the kids are playing, or a training night or two and see the impact that has on the club.
