Agree, also Simmo was, from what I saw, pretty soft around the b/down. Hanigan looked far better and it was late in the game. I think he needs a good break, maybe he is carrying injuries.

Simmon's issue has always been consistency IMHO, he has looked really good at times for the Wobs and at other times disinterested.

I agree, based on form, I actually supported Hannigans selection..
but didn't see the merit in Dempsey, Simmons or Douglas..

And Hanigan is still too green. Actually, I haven't seen anything from Hanigan to suggest he will soon, or ever, be up to test match standard, but I do see a bit in Dempsey. It's just that Dempsey missed the whole (or nearly) of the Super Rugby season and without any form to his name this year has strolled into the Wallabies. Any wonder that many of us think Cheika has a mindset to go to the Tahs for players over other teams? I suspect, being Sydney based, he gets to see a whole lot more of the Tahs players (though that wouldn't explain Dempsey this year) than any others.

The last word I would describe Chek with, is "stupid"

He is intelligent, engaging one on one, motivating and basically a very good coach.

However he is very parochial as seen by some of his left field selections and retaining under performing blokes for several tests and incredibly stubborn and to the point that his team (and the results and culture) suffers.

Because he has 2 assistant coaches who both worked for the Tahs the past 2 years, Cheika has personally coached and played a roll in recruiting some of those Tahs players, and because he lives in Sydney Cheika probably gets to see more Tahs training session and matches in person the he does for the other teams.

It's not unreasonable to expect Cheika to favour a player he has more knowledge of.

Because it's dumb as fuck? Cheika is a highly paid professional not some snot nosed kid picking his mates first for dodgeball.

Maybe there are some inherent biases that occur in a person's subconscious. Hell i'd even say that's likely. But nothing even remotely close to all the raging derps on this forum spouting 'too many tahs hurr durr' every second post.

The fact is that every single Wallaby coach has had favourites the fans didn't agree with, ignored players who appeared to be obvious choices, and chopped and changed in confusing fashion.

In the time of this forum, I recall similar angst over selections by Link, Deans and Knuckles alike.

The fact is that maybe, just maybe, there are things that us internet genii don't see!?!?!

That obviously doesn't mean the coach is right all the time (or that we are wrong), but that it's a delicate art and there are far more factors that go into it than what we see and think.

I don't think you need to overcomplicate it... he is either playing good rugby and deserves his position, or he isn't

Clearly because of the supporter sentiment and the win/loss results they haven't been that good.

You don't get to see the alternative though and have no idea whether it would have been more successful.

A substantial amount of supporter sentiment is based around players people like and don't like. Most of us would like to see Timani have more involvement in this team but his form has been poor and he can't even shine at NRC level right now.

I absolutely wouldn't be selecting Dempsey and would certainly shuffle Hanigan out of the starting 6 jersey for at least a couple of games to look at some alternatives but no one knows whether those alternative selections would be faring better.
